Updated drivers come out for a reason, otherwise the manufacturers wouldn't make them; they can increase stability, performance, or give new features. Just because the driver CD's "work" does not mean that you can not do better. That's like telling me to use the stock GPU drivers on the disk instead of downloading the online ones. I have a Z68 board myself, and installing newer USB3 drivers have increased my read/write performance with my external HDD, and updating my BIOS has allowed me to overclock another extra 0.2 GHz.
If you're building a computer for another person, of course it's a different story because CD's are slightly more convenient, but if it's your computer, I'd just rather have the most up-to-date software on my computer. Besides, you're not just "installing every driver you see;" You're installing drivers on an official page. If you don't trust the brand to put the correct drivers on the page (which I have never seen happen ever), then don't buy their products and condone that sort of behavior.I'm not saying the updated drivers aren't better... I use them myself, and on probably 85% of the machines I set up. You're just missing my point. =/
Salty told the guy to install all the drivers on the page, which is what I was referring to, and doing so is not really a good idea. Plenty of big-name brands get their "official page" mixed up with the wrong software from time to time. Just because it's official, doesn't mean there's a guarantee for everything to be perfect. People make mistakes, it's a fact of life.
I'm sure a vast majority, if not all computer brands and manufacturers have incorrect drivers on their sites. There's just so many different products they have, and so many drivers they have to make compatible with many other products on different operating systems... there's a lot of room for error. Keep it in mind. :P
Like I said, the CD is the safest option, not the best one.
