Ugh, so I'll be taking my PC apart tomorrow but don't have the original packaging for a lot of the components. How should I store the components while I wait for my motherboard?
Leaving them in the case until you actually replace the motherboard is the best you can do, but if you have some anti-static bags lying around, use them.

What about the cpu and the ram and the gpu

I can't just have my gpu hanging off my pci backplate

it'll bend the case

Wait, he's already taken the old board out? I didn't think he'd do that before coming here and asking what to do with all of the parts XD

Obviously in that case he has to either find anti static bags to put the parts in, or just find a clean, safe place for them so they won't be accidentally touched or knocked around.

EDIT: No, wait, he said he'll be taking it apart tomorrow. The best thing to do is leave it all as is until the board arrives.

Do you guys think an SSD for the OS and like 2 or 3 games is worth the extra $100?
Go for a SSD.

I didn't regret choosing a SSD for my build. But I usually install most of my games in my HDD.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I'm RMAing the board and don't have funds to purchase another one in advance. I'll have all these parts lying around and no home for them. My biggest concern though is the CPU, which I may still have the plastic for.

I would store the graphics card in its anti-static bag.

As for the CPU and RAM, I'm not too sure.

Why does my RAM run at 804 MHz and not a perfect 800 MHz? I have 1600 MHz RAM sticks and I'm aware of double data rate.

How long will they go unused until you can order another board?

And how many of the original boxes do you still have? The CPU would be best placed in its box, the GPU in its anti-static bag, and the RAM is durable enough by itself. Just put it in one of the other boxes.

Will it be safe in the long run if my RAM is 1.65 volts? I've heard Ivy Bridge can only tolerate 5% +/- from 1.5 volts.

I could set it to run at 1.5 volts but it'll be limited to 1333 MHz and my RAM is rated at 1600 MHz but at 1.65 volts.

What RAM do you have? Mine runs slightly under 1.5v and at 1600 MHz.

Also, what are your timings, e.g. CAS latency?

Anyone have the benchmarks for the 7770 in BF3?

here you go

and judging from those benchmarks it looks like a terrible card

Guys rate my ultra budget PC

1. Phenom X4 955 black edition
2.650 w PSU
3.HD 7850 (most expensive part)
4.500 gig HDD

etc..

Will the 7850 2 gig bottleneck?

For $100 it's not too bad.

i would say it wouldn't be a problem. there were a few driver bugs specifically with the 7850 when it launched but they should have been sorted out by now. but if you're really worried about a bottleneck happening you could just overclock the cpu a bit to maybe 3.6 or 3.8 ghz. the phenom II's are crazy good overclockers, i've got my 965 oc'd to 4.1 ghz.

Nice. Im watching a few benchmarks of the 7850 but im worried since theyre using Intel processors the quality might not be the same as mine (still waiting for 7850 to deliver)

I'm probably gonna make a lower budget build with either a 7770 or 7850, since I might get a new phone for my birthday instead of a good computer.

Here's a quick budget build that I whipped up.

You could throw in an Ivy i3 if you wanted as well.

This is my RAM, has all the information you need, including CAS latency.

Odd, mine is 2x4GB though. Spec sheet shows 2x2GB but I believe it's more or less identical.

What? The 7770 is quite potent for its price.

Why worry about customer service if it works? If it doesn't, RMA it.

The Windforce 3X is a nice cooler.

Also, more details on Haswell.

Moore's Law bro.

Trust me, it gets better as it gets smaller. But I'm quite appalled as Haswell uses LGA 1150...
