I made my user name back when I was little. I go by RandomJPG now. Please don't reference my username.
I'm heavily considering saving up some money for a desktop that I can use to both play games (and possibly connect to my TV) and edit videos (such as rendering out 3D visual effects footage once I transfer to a actual university). I am aware that if I were solely using my desktop to play games I wouldn't have a need to spend anything more than around $800. However, since I'm also doing a lot of video/game production work, I'm willing to spend up to $1800 (though I would like to spend about $1400-1500).
I've never built a desktop before but I have compiled a list of parts that should get me the results I need. I still need help fine-tuning the list though so I can save money while achieving almost the same results and also being sure everything works. I'd like to keep 16GB of RAM, the blu-ray player (since I plan on connecting my desktop to my TV and using it as a blu-ray player), and have something close to a Ivy Bridge (I'll be good with AMD if it gets me the same results as an Ivy Bridge). I'm pretty sure you folks could save me a pretty penny. Also, since it's going to take me a while to save up the money to buy this, how long will this list stay up to date? I don't want to buy this desktop four months from now and have it be outdated.
Here is the list
Also, if it's possible, try to make everything look nice. As you can see I kind of have a red/black theme going on as I want the inside to look nice. It's obviously not as important as performance but if you can try to keep everything red or black.
PS: Don't worry about the mouse, keyboard, or monitors for the moment. I can use what I have for now and, for the most part, I don't need to do THAT much research on those types of things.
