$1500? I can do that.

No offense, but a LOT better than Salty's.

All you need is the OS (pirate or purchase legally and lose $100). I would also suggest getting a mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse (non-MW3 version is $30 more, and alcohol will remove the MW3 logo).

Like I said before try to stay away from stuff like keyboards and mouses as I can get that myself pretty easily. Is the 670 really worth it over the 660?

You can get a mechanical keyboard? If not, do some research about them. They're infinitely better than membrane keyboards.

And yes, the 670 is a lot better.

Who the hell do you think I am?

Oh yeah, I didn't even notice how overpriced the RAM was on the build I linked. It was even just 1600MHz.

The one Fluffy linked is the same, except without the OS and the HDD is just 1TB (and the RAM is at a normal price), so you could just get his if you want something cheaper.

I was already looking into mechanical keyboards beforehand. Do they come in wireless form? I know wireless isn't the best for gaming but I don't care that much.

I don't know. 660 and 670 don't seem THAT different to me.

By the way will most of this stuff be outdated by the time I actually get the computer (March 2013)?

My motherboard is cheaper, but I doubt he would be using three SSD's (what your selected mobo is for). Mine also has a much better case and my Blu-ray player can also burn CD's, unlike yours.

Trust me, it is.

And here you go.

So apparently, I've been linking that RAM in all my PCpp builds, so if anyone is planning on buying a build I linked them, make sure you change that.

My bad...

You can also get 2x8GB sticks for $10 cheaper and upgrade to 32GB in the future if you grab the two sticks. It'll also use less voltage and be more stable.

That's what I had wanted to do. What kind of speed should they be?

1600 is the optimal price-to-performance ratio on Ivy chips.

Found the monitor I'm using!
Looks ancient. I'd recommend a new monitor.

Anyway, your PC has some overkill parts. The graphics card is meh compared to the rest of your system.

Odd one out. I don't plan on getting a new card, but then again I wouldn't know what to look for.

I think your card will suffice. But I'd suggest you take a look at AMD's and NVIDIA's new cards next year.

I'm still trying to work out a high end PC...

What do you guys think?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ktOT
Get this instead

Better motherboard, better SSD for a lot less (the one you had was overpriced), the 680 offers very little over a 670, and you don't need a 750W PSU. 620W will still be more than enough. Leaves you some more money for peripherals.

Thanks for the suggestions.

1600 is the optimal price-to-performance ratio on Ivy chips.
While this might have been true with Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge chips benefit from increased memory bandwidth more than timings, and the cost of RAM has dropped to the point where 2000MHz DDR3 is much the same price as 1600MHz, and 8GB of 2133MHz is perhaps $10 more.

Buying the highest frequency RAM in your price bracket is definitely the way to go with Ivy, just make sure it's from a good brand. Fried RAM is a nuisance of a thing.

An interesting article on RAM.

tl;dr - As far as games go, higher speeds on RAM only help on lower graphic settings. On ultra, they are negligible. For normal use, it's only useful if you use XMP settings.

"In the end, we have to recommend what kits our users should be looking for. Taking the DDR3-1333 C9 kit as a base, it seems a no-brainer to go for the DDR3-1600 C9 kit for $5 more. The boost across the board for a negligible difference in price is worth it. The jump up to the G.Skill 1866 C9 kit also provides enough of a measurable boost, although the leap in price from 1600 C9 is another $15, which could be harder to swallow.

As we move into the 2133 C9 kit we tested today, we again across our test bed see a tangible jump in performance. This jump is not as much as moving from 1333 to 1600, but it is there and users wanting peak performance will be happy with this kit, though the size of the user pockets will also have to match.

When it comes to our 2400 C10 kit results, compared to the 2133 C9, it is highly dependant which kit comes out on top. Even if one kit beats the other, it is only by a small margin not one that can be justified by a $15 jump in the price."
