I got these cheeseburgers man....

Wait what? This pretty much looks exactly the same as W7 with square edges.

By the way, here's a photo of my Windows 8 desktop.

One thing that I do love about Windows 8 is how smooth and clean looking everything is....

Lots of underlying changes though.

Should run faster too.

the flood, there a bunch of jerks, but there my jerks.

I would rather let W8 sort itself out for a year or two, who knows if it has issues or incompatibilities.

Seems fine so far.

Drivers for Windows 7 seem to work seamlessly on Windows 8. Plus, the introductory offer is valid until January 2013. Plenty of time to decide.

$40 for Windows 8 Pro if you upgrade from an existing version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7).

Windows 8 is compatible with every W7 program. It's a pretty major performance improvement over Windows 7 in most ways.

Also, if any of you have bought a laptop from some time after June first-ish, you can get Windows 8 Pro for $15 like I did.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I'm probably going to upgrade this Vista laptop to Windows 8 (does anyone know if I can do that?) It's really slow, so I'm sure it would benefit somewhat from the upgrade (the hardware isn't too bad, it's just backed up by a bunch of crap that even CC cleaner can't fix, for whatever reason). I only use it for a backup anyway, like I am now.

Yes, you can. Do it before January to get the $40 price.

And it is quite faster, startups are in seconds, and opening my most used programs is faster by a few seconds.

IfI do the W8 Pro uber cheap thingy, will I be able to install it to my custom built computer I will build in a few months?

No, it requires a previous install of windows.

Here's my review on Windows 8

The good:

It boots faster because it does not shutdown, it does a log off + hibernate and only cold boots when you do a restart (for windows update and the like)

'Under the hood' improvements to security and memory usage.

The new task manager is a sexy beast.

The new file copy dialog is long overdue.

The ribbon UI I could take or leave...

The Bad:

I have a strong personal dislike for the fact that MS is monetizing every Windows 8 install as an advertizing platform. You can see the effects of this already The installed by default metro apps have ads.

Hot corners with no visual indication that they are there

Win8 feels bifurcated with such oddities as 2 control panels neither covering everything you need to do in the OS.

Any time you want to start an application, that is not pinned to your taskbar/desktop you are faced with the issue of context switching, that is to say, you are taken out of whatever you are doing to a full screen start menu with a radically different sets of UI semantics, behaviors and information density. Context switching breaks workflow and due to this UI's are designed to minimized or mitigated the effect, this is not the case in windows 8

The mouse controls feel like an afterthought coming in far behind the touch controls.

All in all I'd recommend it to anyone that has a touch interface.

Anyone with a desktop would be much better to stay on windows 7

Thinking of running a partition for W8, you guys almost have me convinced. : )

It's a'me, Sesto

Can any computer people tell me if this is a good deal? Getting someone to make me a computer.

AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 109.99
Gigabyte 990FXA Motherboard 139.99
Western Digital 2TB Hard Drive 99.99
OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD 49.99
Corsair Vengeance Black 16GB RAM 65.99
OCZ 600W Power Supply 79.99
XFX Radeon HD 7770 119.99
Zalman Z9 Plus Case 49.99
Windows 7 Professional 99.99
Asus DVD Drive 16.99

Also, if one part is -blam!-, can you suggest a replacement?

They're all great, although the GPU is a budget card. Look at the 7850 if you want a better one or a 660 if you want to spend a little more.

Like I said in the other thread, swap the CPU for the 6300.

AMD has managed to fix up a number of the problems with the Bulldozer chips with the new Piledirver ones. Heat is a bit better, power usage isn't as bad, and there's about a 10%-15% boost in overall performance.

The new chips just came out, so they may not be on the market everywhere yet, but if you want to stick with AMD, then it would be a good idea to hold off until they're available.

Personally as a graphic designer, ads look great

Microsoft's morals are in the wrong place but ads make it feel...more alive.

Although I'm more than likely to stick with Win7 just because I'm lazy and PMC says it's good to stick with it

W8 is not worse than W7, but it doesn't offer anything new or innovative either. It comes down to personal preference more than performance, and W7 simply flows better with a mouse, whereas W8 is better for a tablet in my opinion.

The ads are only in Metro apps. I can see myself only venturing into Metro apps if I really need to, and I assume you'd be the same way. You'll most likely never see an ad.

Also, just install Classic shell or pay $5 for Start8 and you'll never see the Metro again except for signing in and maybe updates. But the Metro interface is all about customizing it to how you like. I actually like my Start Screen because of how I've customized it.

Should I worry about shut down on W8? I have a SSD and it's recommended to disable hibernation.
