Here's the inside of my PC, should I worry about the dust accumulation?

Yes. You should clean that off there because if it builds up enough it'll cause overheating problems amongst other things.

Compressed air or vacuum?

I've heard vacuum can cause a static discharge.

Vacuum is fine, as long as you keep yourself earthed, which you should be doing any time you start fiddling with the inside of the case.

Compressed air is probably best, though. And whichever way you go, make sure you don't let the fans spin when you clean them =P

I thought the fans would spin even if you use compressed air?

I said whichever. they'll probably spin when pushed or pulled by either.

I had a very similar thing, only I threw a 14 story building out of a pool and hit a kid on a paper aeroplane.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

Why was this posted before a whole building guide was set-up? After months there still isn't a full guide ready, so why post when its an incomplete state like this?

I'm not trying to be rude, it's just a very weird to post something like this and still have it incomplete after so long indicating that this is far from finished.

  • 10.30.2012 4:19 AM PDT

Fair point. It actually wouldn't hurt if some of the more active members got together and contributed different bits to how to go about building. Heck, I've got my new computer sitting on a table so I suppose I might be able to contribute some.

Well lets start our own thread, with blackjack and hookers! In fact, forget the thread and blackjack!

In all seriousness though Chainsaw Edge is still active, so if we could make our own guides and then have him either copy/paste, or simply link to those posts we'd be golden.

If you guys want to you can take a look at the posts I made awhile back. They're mostly complete in my opinion, but more can be added. They've been linked to in the main post for months now (at the bottom).

Used compressed air. Don't be afraid to use it at all, just be sure to keep it at least more than an inch away. When cleaning the fans, just hold them with your finger, but don't hit your finger with the compressed air.

I find that computer building is more effective if you tutor the person one-on-one, rather than trying to have one general guide. Sure, it's nice to have a complete OP, but we can just answer people's questions here.

Flood Kids? Lol.

Alright my cohorts, link me a good gaming keyboard to get. Nothing too expensive, if we could keep it around/under 100$ that would be nice. Thanks.

Edit: Nothing that is too big btw, a smaller sized keyboard would be really nice. Thanks!

Oh boy, here we go:

Are noisy keys viable in your environment?
Home country / Language needs?
Do you need Windows/Apple/Unix compatibility?
Do you need media/macro keys or volume controls? (Advanced vs. Simple.)
How many keys do you need to be able to press simultaneously?
Do you have a preference for cylindrical, flat or spherical keys?
Do you want wireless (Bluetooth/RF)?
Do you want a numpad?
Do you want a backlight?
Do you want etched/engraved or dye sublimated keycaps?

I'll answer these in a column like what you posted :D

Noise is fine.
I'm Canadian, and I speak English.
Windows.
Macros would be nice but a simple-ish keyboard is fine.
Max 5.
No preference.
Numpad please.
Indifferent.

I'm really open to a lot of things, don't think you'll break my heart by posting a couple.

Hmm, being Canadian might pose a small issue since mechanical keyboards are already in short supply in the states.

The best brands with a numpad would be Rosewill (best value), Filco (best quality), and Ducky (LED backlight). I would check out this Rosewill one. The others are way over $100, closer to $140 (as opposed to $90-$100 here) Ideally, you would probably want browns, but blues would work just fine.
