You can still use Physx on Borderlands 2 if you have an AMD card. Rather than the GPU, the processing is offloaded onto the CPU. Don't know about other games though.

Doesn't run very well if you've had to sacrifice a better processor for a better GPU

No you don't actually. Borderlands 2 with Physx enabled runs well on my friend's 2500K and 6870. It's an anecdote yes, but the fact that it can run on max with medium Physx at 60 FPS should say something. Don't forget that you guys are stuffing better processors and video cards in your computers.

I have an i3 2120 processor

Borderlands 2 with PhysX turned on drops my FPS to 25 fps in some places

Turned off, I get 70+

the flood, there a bunch of jerks, but there my jerks.

I just bought my MOBO and Case (Asus Maximus Formula V, HAF X), is there any specific spot I should put the motherboard because I probably won't build my computer for a month or two. I bought them now because Newegg was running good discounts on them!

I have a 7950 with a Core i5 3470, doesn't run very well.

FPS dropped from 60 to 29.

Do you plan to overclock past 5.0 GHz? That's a pretty beefy board.

And just keep them in their boxes. You can take the case out and put it on / under your desk if you want, but obviously keep the mobo in its box.

Well, I have PhysX to high, and I get 60+ FPS.
Then again, I have an i5 3570k and GTX 670 OC Edition. lol

I could get a cheap NVIDIA card and relegate it as a PhysX processor. But since few games support it, I don't think it's worth it.

GTX 670

Did you not read the post above?

GTX cards don't have to worry about it, you're not running PhysX on your processor anyway.

People with AMD cards DO.

Well duh, PhysX is an Nvidia feature

Okay so I have my computer all set up only thing now is my operating system. So I can get either Windows 8 professional or Windows 7 professional from my school for free. If I get Windows 8 will I have any problems playing games like skyrim that were made for Windows 7?

Well, it could be useful for streaming HD video to a monitor while playing a game on the other GPU.

What's the smallest case I can get that will accommodate these parts? Preferably under 75$ CAD.

I'm looking to keep the total under 800$, and I'm still also missing a PSU.

Case....choose your color

You'll need to use a mini ITX board though....but all of those parts WILL fit in it.

Are there even benefits in using a mouse pad with an optical or laser mouse?

I dunno. I just want something to replace this MW3 mousepad I have (came with my G9x). I was thinking about getting either an anime-themed mousepad, videogame-themed, or that one. Not too sure yet.

I might in time get to like 4.5 Ghz lol, I mostly got it because of the PCIe capability, and the integrated audio. Plus the color scheme fits the HAF X.

But thanks for the advice.

I'm pretty sure virtually all boards have PCI-E nowadays.

Or is there some other advanced feature in the ROG boards?

Im going to get the 3770K. And the Formula V is EATX so it has a bit more PCI slots, and makes full use of my HAF X case.
