That's AMD.I'm not saying that AMD is a bad brand....they are a really great brand....but for a higher end build I don't suggest AMD.brandThere's that word, that ever so inappropriate word for this field.

I fail to see how. The field is not new in any way, and brands hold reputation. Reputation dictates choices. AMD, the brand, is viewed as a budget solution. Reputation is built from experience, and the general consensus is that AMD is still a budget solution.

Referring to the manufacturer itself, not to mention fundamentally different technologies as a "brand" is just wrong to me. To me, "brand" is for microwave popcorn, not technologically different microprocessors built, designed, and sold by different companies.

Except for their graphics cards.

Plus, their AMD Athlon CPUs in 2002-2005 reigned supreme over the Pentium 4 amongst gamers.

Proud Spartan II, COG soldier, Hero of time, and crowbar wielding scientist.

Alright, flood.

I've been meaning to build a PC for a while. My budget is 800 dollars, and I want as much bang for my buck as I can get. So far, I've been using this build guide, which gets a new version every month.
I'm looking at using the $800 build for whatever month I get the money, but I want to start ordering parts, and I don't know if it's a wise choice to use this build if I want maximum power for my money.

If you can offer any improvements, that'd be great. As long as it has specs at or above this.
Presentation doesnt matter, so I don't need a fancy case. I already have a monitor and other necessities, I just need this new build.
Also, be wary of upcoming sales that might happen.
Thanks in advance!

That looks like a pretty solid build, with that i5, and the GPU. If they are too weak for you (which they shouldn't be, depending on your monitor) then you could always upgrade.

Is it good enough to last a few years and a few upgrades?

The $800 build is excellent.

You can go for the build. You can have my guarantee.

And hell yeah it can last you for at least 3 years. You can simply the upgrade the graphics card in the future, that's the beauty of PC gaming.

I wouldn't go with Cyberpower or iBuyPower. I've heard mixed reviews about them. Some reviews talk about bad customer service, DOA, parts carelessly jammed into their places and such. Other reviews say that there have been no problems with the computer.
Yeah. Salty was able to nab an i7 2600k / 16GB RAM / 560 Ti off of them for $700 a year ago, but the PSU blew out on him recently.

That's AMD.
Uhh, what?

Their graphics cards operate differently under variable conditions. Both of those cards are the same price, yet nVidia works better with 1080p, while AMD is better for hi-res.

As for CPU's, the i3 2120 used to be able to beat out Phenoms and even FX's for a period of time, while being cheaper than the AMD CPU's. There is no such thing as objectively "best value for your money" with CPU and GPUs when comparing AMD to nVidia or Intel; only what suits your needs best.]

Posted by: EtrnlknightmareThat's actually a really solid build. I'd get an Extreme4 over the Gigabyte, but that's just me. I also love G.Skill because they have a lifetime warranty, and both of my Corsaair RAM sticks have gone bad. For the case, I'd get an NZXT Elite 210 or Corsair R200 but it's more personal preference.

I'm getting reeeeaaally close to finishing off my build guys :D Only $300 to go -.- (pretty much means I'll be able to put it together on christmas). I just want to know, is this a decent budget mobo if I have no intention of overclocking? Asrock Z77 Pro4

And would I need an aftermarket CPU fan for this?
Intel Core i3 3220 3.3GHz (again, no overclocking.

Wait did salty have a cyberpower? Cause my cyberpower psu blew out on me too, before I got my current one.

Other than the psu taking a crap, my cyberpower was a very good computer for the price.

No, you won't need an aftermarket fan for the i3. And if you're not overclocking you wont need a Z77 board either. Get a H77 or B75 instead.

This is what I got.

It had some crappy 700W Coonix. I've only ever read of one other person using this brand and he set it went up in smoke. I replaced mine with a nice 620W seasonic.

I will be upgrading to an i5 and a 670 later down the line. Still think I shouldn't get a Z77? I was told it was a good board :/

At least you had 700W. The one mine came with was ~460w I believe. It was only a $500 pc though. So I never expected much from it.

No, I'm not saying it's a bad board. It's just the Z77 is meant for overclocking, while the H77 boards would better accommodate an i3. Also, it would be a large waste of money to get an i5 later on. Just get the i5 now and you wont need to spend another $200 or so. Also, what graphics card are you getting now?

Considering how bad it was, it probably didn't even output 700W.

Which is why it's always important to get a good quality PSU (saying this towards potential builders. Don't break your entire machine off of one poor decision)

I'm just gonna reuse my 430 for now. I'm 15, can't afford anything right now. After the computer is functional I'm going to start saving up for a card.

That's fine. But like I said, go with H77 if you're just getting the i3, and Z77 if you have the i5 and are going to overclock (make sure you have an aftermarket cooler too). Do you know what your final build will be yet?

Final build as in after I buy the new GPU and stuff?

Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Case
Intel Core i5 3550
Nvidia GTX 670 or 770 if it's released
Corsair CX600 (600W PSU)
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB RAM
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM HDD
Windows 8
Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard Is this a good motherboard or should I go with the Z77 for the i5? I will get an i5, but not overclock.
Some iHas LiteOn or something DVD drive.

  • 11.16.2012 7:55 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

Yeah, if you're not getting an overclockable i5 then that H77 board will do fine.
