Explain the second part. About wiping the 400GB.You're not paying for Windows 8, per se, but rather the privilege to use it (activation key). If you want to move your copy of Windows to another machine (or hard drive), you would have to first remove it from the current one. You can do this a few ways, but the most common is to just reformat the drive. You can only (legally) have one install per key at a time. With the OEM copy, you are not allowed to move the install to different machines - it's bound to the first machine it is installed on.
edit: The only reason cloning doesn't violate the EULA is because you aren't using the same install on two different machines simultaneously. Most people just use clones as a way to transfer their system, or as a way to keep a backup of their data.So I could get a thumbdrive, put windows 8 or an image of it on there, wipe the 400GB, and then boot with the thumb drive? I'm sorry, but this is all so confusing >_<
