I got these cheeseburgers man....

Posted by: TopWargamer
Just ordered the rest of the my stuff except for my video card.

My birthday is coming up soon and I should be getting around $100 from that....and then my mom is gonna give me $300 to go towards stuff....and then my grandma WAS gonna buy me a part or 2....but I was able to buy them today....so I may be able to get some money from her as well.

So here's the real question.....670, 680, or 7970?
7970. As said above, it performs better than a 680, and can overclock a ton. If $400 is pushing it, I'd recommend the 7950, but if you want Nvidia, then the 670.

So, the 212+ has better cooling? I was a bit confused by your answer, sorry.

Out of the Hyper 212 series....the Hyper 212 EVO has the best cooling out of the Hyber 212 series because the heat pipes are all connected and there's no spacing between each....unlike the previous versions of the Hyper 212.

All of the heatsinks in the Hyper 212 family all have great cooling...but the EVO has the best.

I ended up picking up the Hyper 212 Plus only because when I was ordering my parts today, I was on a strict budget.

Yes....but I went ahead and bought some good thermal compound which made me go $10 over what I was already suppose to use...so ya.

Plus all of this was ordered on my mom's debit card (seeing that i'm 16 and don't have one yet >.>). So it was with her money and she had some bills to pay.

Quickly...need some help. This fan comes with thermal compound. Is it good or not?
Yes, it's very good. It's only about 1*C hotter than AS5, but to be fair, mayonnaise keeps the CPU as cool as any thermal paste, it just doesn't last as long. If you're going to buy any third-party TIM, grab some MX-4.

Not related to this, but, what's the difference between the 212 Plus and 212 Evo?

The heat pipes are directly together instead of there being spacing between each pipe.

Better cooling.
According to numerous benches, it's only cooler by about 2*C max.

Like I said before....all of the Hyper 212 heatsinks are great....but the EVO is *technically* the coolest one.

So...

Would it ever make sense to use a portable HDD and just shove in the case and use that as your main HDD?

Just curious. If so, would there be an advantage or disadvantage to that? I mainly ask because those drives seem to be more reliable.

It's a good board.

There isn't much difference from the Z77 chipset if you're not overclocking.

No, portable HDDs are slower since they rely on USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 which are far slower than the throughput of SATA.

Unless you have a eSATA drive, I'd suggest keep your internal SATA drives.

Apparently it has 3 fan headers. Does this mean that I can't use all 5 of my fans?

It would make no sense whatsoever. Portable drives either use USB2 (10-20 MB/s) or USB 3 (70-100 MB/s), while internal HDD's use SATA (3 GB/s). Of course, they don't actually hit 3 GB/s, as only SSD's can surpass that speed, but you'll suffer awful loading times by putting your OS on an external HDD.

Just curious. If so, would there be an advantage or disadvantage to that? I mainly ask because those drives seem to be more reliable.Fun fact: An external HDD is just an internal HDD wrapped in a plastic casing and using USB3. Try breaking an old one open sometime. The only reason that they are more reliable is because less people own them, so the failure rates are lower by default, and because they write data slower, so they don't make fatal mistakes.

According to most charts, the 7970GHz edition is the fastest.

God that's such a good deal for that PSU. How much better would that PSU be compared to that exact model, but only 80plus bronze?

Alright, but here's the photos I told you guys I'd put up:
Case in store.
Corsair yada yada 8GB DDR3 1600.
Asrock Extreme 4, it was an incredibly good deal. You'll see the price in the last pic.
Case at home. It's actually black, the box just seems to show off the white one.
Another great deal.
And last but not least, the grand total and cost of each part!

I loved the $40 off if you get the CPU and Mobo. Also, the $59.99 for the phantom case was awesome.

I actually own the X660 and the X760, lol.

One went into my mom's computer after it left my old one, and the 760W moved into mine. I'm still a bit confused as to why SeaSonic made the 650/750 models when the 660/760 sound like a better deal. Of course, I also spent about $140 on both of the PSU's.
