Grandpa Fluffy sounds like a pretty cool guy.
He's a pretty cool guy. He still plays Star Wars: Dark Forces on his old DOS computer, but I also taught him how to play GoW 3. I have a whole slew of stories about him, but I'll save that for another time.
Does that GoW 3 stand for Gears or God of War?

Why do you need 1866 MHz? Ivy Bridge only supports up to 1600 MHz.

hey guys. Aren't there stability issues with Ram that has a speed above 1600? I ordered this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168202314 55&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-n a-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= and it has a speed of 1866...

Can I just "plug and play" with this or do I need to make adjustments?
When you plug it in, the mobo will likely default it to 1333. Manually enter the timings (and voltage, if you want, but set it as 1.500V) and then set it for 1600 speed. If you want to try to make it run at 1866, you have to mess with the XMP profile or something. It will run at 1600 without messing with anything, even on my Sandy.

No, there shouldn't be any problems. And if there potentially was, your motherboard would automatically adjust the RAM settings to make it work properly.

It only "Officially" supports up to 1600. With some simple overclocking you can easily get it further.

Gears. He's alright at it, but he prefers PC games like Counter Strike. He has a laptop for that though.

Now, that's one badass grandpa.

Anyway.

Damn it, Intel...
But how will Microcenter have those amazing mobo-CPU combos?

But all of ASUS and AsRock's best motherboards are for Intel :/

Great now I have to cancel my order, but it isn't showing up in my recent orders...?

EDIT: Salty if my board only supports up to 1600 what would happen?

Pretty sure AMD will make substantial improvements to their CPU and chipset products by the time Broadwell releases. :/

Anyway, I hope it doesn't go into fruition. Integrating the CPU with the mobo is fine for HTPCs and low-cost solutions but for high-end gaming rigs? Nope.

--

Bauble, keep your order. 1600 MHz is the max officially supported but your mobo should automatically run the RAM at 1866 MHz, if it doesn't, use XMP profiles.

Most Intel 7-series boards support up to 1600 MHz officially, anything above that will require an overclock.

I don't know if it would clock it down or not recognize it at all, because I have heard of other people's RAM not being recognized on their motherboard because of the RAM speed, but I'm not sure.

No, keep it. You can always run under the rated speed, which is sometimes a good thing, as you can lower the CAS latencies.

Anything faster than 1600 technically has to be "overclocked." Just pull up any mobo on newegg and you'll see "1866 (O.C.)." I should know, I have a set of Corsair Vengeance RAM.

This is the board

Anyway, this is the final build. All I have left to buy is the motherboard and the Processor, so I guess I could select a new board. Don't know why I didn't already think about that :P

I would suggest the AsRock Z77 Pro4, or if you can order tonight, the Z77 Extreme4 ($105).

What do yall floodians think of the A10 5800k? It's my only option of getting a decent computer anytime soon.
The build will be in my existing case,HDD, and PSU
A10-5800k
4gb KINGSTON 1866 (will buy another 4gb stick a month or two later)
and an A75 chipset mobo
Opinions?Suggestions?

I just checked your board, not sure if it will go up to 1866 MHz.

4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory
* Due to Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than 4 GB.
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules
* To support DDR3 1600 MHz, you must install an Intel 22nm CPU.
Support for non-ECC memory modules
Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
* To support XMP memory, you must install an Intel 22nm CPU.

My only concern about the Pro4 is that it has only one chassis fan connector. I have five fans.

I know that, but some motherboards don't even allow overclocks past 1600. I think he was asking what happens then.

The new APUs have excellent GPUs that trumps Intel's equivalents.

I'd say, why not? Plus the 1866 MHz RAM could further benefit the integrated GPU.

If your PSU has molex connectors, you'll be fine. If the fans are built into the case, they'll most likely all be connected to one molex. I have nine fans in my case, and I only use one of the ports on the mobo (the CPU fan, since it won't boot unless you have one attached).

The mobo that he has selected does not, and if it doesn't support it, then it'll just run at 1600.

Here's all the parts that I'm considering for my build:

Case:
Antec P193 V3 or Cooler Master Haf XB

CPU:
Intel I5 3570k
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Arctic Silver 5 thermal compund

Video Card:
ASUS GTX 660 TI DC2T

Motherboard:
ASUS Sabertooth P67 or ASUS Sabertooth Z77
50mm assist fan for the motherboard

Optical Drive:
ASUS 24X DVD Burner

Power Supply:
Enermax Platimax 850w Modular 80 Plus Platinum
or Antec 850w Modular 80 Plus Gold
or Seasonic 750w Modular 80 Plus Gold

RAM:
G Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR 1600

Storage Drive:
Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive

These are the final parts that I am considering to get for my build. Is there anything that I missed or that you guys would recommend changing?
Get the Coolermaster case, I can't see any reason to spend almost $200 on a case. Get a 7950 instead of the 660ti. Why such an expensive motherboard? Get the Seasonic PSU, but you really only need 650W, unless you're adding in another GPU later. I don't see the point in the hybrid drive, but that's just me. I'd rather get a cheap 128GB SSD and a $80 1TB hard drive, but again, personal preference.

What motherboard would you suggest getting instead?

Will this surge protector fry my PSU (SeaSonic Platinum 860w) when it's using max power?? Reason being, for whatever reason our power company sent it to us for free. Probably related to Sandy in some way, anyway I want to use it be cause I'm short on money at the moment. If it is inadequate I will suck it up and buy a proper one though.

All a surge protector does is evenly distribute the electricity coming from the outlet that it is plugged into. And if you have a surge protector that can store power(watts) then it will do that as well.

So should be ok.
