Doesn't Corsair get their PSUs from Seasonic?
Yep, they do.

Along with XFX and NZXT power supplies.

Actually, I was going for the SeaSonic 620W PSU but the store convinced me to get a 700W PSU. I was given two options, either the Xigmatek or a Corsair.

I ended up settling for the former.

Yep. I think Antec did too, actually. But I can't remember.
I believe they get SS for their NEO ECO and EarthWatts PSU's.

The budget CAN shift, I just want to get an idea of what kind of setups I might be able to get myself into for what I want.
Here's what I suggest for a base computer:

Linky

Now you just have to add the GPU and PSU. I didn't add the PSU because there are so many great sales going on right now like this.

From there, I would suggest a 7850. The XFX Double-D cards come with a lifetime warranty, which applies even if you break the card from overclocking.

If you can order those components right now, because those deals might not be there tomorrow.

I dunno if I would get a 7850 with that budget. Also he just wants to play skyrim at medium settings which is possible with a 80 dollar card.

Hey Everyone, found this thread a few days ago and I was really impressed. Would've saved me a lot of time when I was first deciding to go out and build a desktop. Anyway, this is the PC I will have fully made within a month. I should be getting my case, PSU, and my MOBO on thursday. Tell me what you think...I am open to some minor last minute changes.
Processor
Graphics Card(Discontinued on Newegg, it was lower $200-$230)
Motherboard
RAM
Hard Drive
Power Supply
Case
Disk Drive is just regular DVD read/write...I have windows 7 now, and I plan on using a T.V. or a old monitor till I get a new one.
Thanks in advance guys.

*My post above*
Alright, I may consider the the different Graphics card mentioned (Radeon HD 7870) and the MOBO, although I still kinda want a Nvidia and the 560 ti has been looking good for a while. Yes I know its already kinda outdated, but it will still do what I want.
What I did notice though is that when I chose my Hard Drive(quoted above) it was on a big sale. Since then I have noticed it is one of the most over priced ones. I will change it to either a much cheaper 500gb or a ditto price with like a tb of storage.
Any of you guys have opinions on any of these?

Thanks guys! Hopefully this will be one of my main resources for computer stuff for many months to come.

This one.
But why do you want a dated GPU, when you could get one for the same price that's just as powerful? I'm not exactly sure, but I bet a 660 would perform just as well as a 560ti. Don't take my word for that though.

The 660 is 220 the 560ti is 140.

Curious question.

Knowing my expectations/wants from the first post, what would you expect an average budget size to be to attain all of that?(being modest with features) Still keeping under $1000, definitely, though.

I expect it would be around $800 or so for a fair build, with my minimal knowledge. (Not necesarily including any extra features, OS, Monitor, accessories, or what have you)

I could definitely be wrong about that, though. I feel like waiting is probably the best approach, though. (It can only get better, right?) This is assuming, of course, that the technology will continue to progress at the rate it has been for the past ten years or so. Which it will.

Anyway, please refer back to the question I so skillfully placed within this mess of text, thanks!

(I do appreciate the suggestions)

I wasn't sure on the prices, I just assumed it was gonna be cheaper than the 660ti, but I didn't know by how much.
But whatever, if he wants the 560ti, let him get it. I'm just trying to offer my opinion.

And to the person above, yes, $800 is a good budget.

So you're saying that you only need the tower, which you are willing to spend $800 on?

This is $850 post-rebates, but it could seriously last you three years without any upgrades.

By the way, (off topic-might be a dumb question) how do you post the OP of a quote?

You're like a slinky. Good for nothing, but you bring a smile to my face when I push you down the stairs.

My build with an i5 is costing me about $600. Of course I only have a GT 430 that I'm temporarily re-using until I can grab a 7970.

Without my graphics card my I5 build was 480. But that's because I got the 3470 for 150.

Get the ASUS P8Z77-V or the P8Z77-V Pro.

I Looked at newegg and found there are different versions of the P8Z77-V.
LX
LK
LE
LE Plus

Why so many different versions?
Also, the LK says that it comes with UEFI BIOS. Does that mean that the other ones won't come with it?

The P8Z77-V is the "regular" version. The models you listed are more low end reiterations of the board. I have the P8Z77-V and it has the UEFI BIOS.

Plus, you also get free RAM with the board.

Anyway, who wants to go on Left 4 Dead 2? Hit me up on Steam.

Yep, they do.

Not all. The extreme high end ones with the i at the end (AX1200i, AX 860i, etc.) are their own is my understanding.

When buying Nvidia cards, which are the good manufacturers?

I know it may depend on the card but which are notably good?

I hear EVGA & GIGABYTE are good but I'm not too sure.

ASUS, EVGA and Gigabyte are all good brands to buy from. And currently, the only Nvidia card really worth your money would be the 670 or 670 FTW.

  • 11.28.2012 2:50 PM PDT

Just wondering, what desktop GPU would be the equivalent to the Nvidia 630m?

Or

Could the 630m run Far Cry 3 on medium settings or higher? (asking for a friend)

Those cards are pretty expensive. I don't want to pay more for something I won't use such as SLI or multi-monitor support or extra vram because I only game at 1650x1050.

Which is why I'd go for the budget-performance 650 ti.
