Just wondering, what desktop GPU would be the equivalent to the Nvidia 630m?

Or

Could the 630m run Far Cry 3 on medium settings or higher? (asking for a friend)
630M? You know that's the mobile chipset for laptops, right?

Yes. That's why I asked for desktop equivilent

I can play next weekend maybe. You should download this mod.

When buying Nvidia cards, which are the good manufacturers?

I know it may depend on the card but which are notably good?

I hear EVGA & GIGABYTE are good but I'm not too sure.

Everybody except for ZOTAC. ZOTAC is a mediocre company.
I agree. I have a Zotac GTX 570 and it runs awfully hot, plus they wouldn't honor my rebate.

EVGA - Some cards have lifetime warranty, and you can upgrade to a newer card by paying the price difference and sending in the old one.

MSI - Best cooling, bar none.

Gigabyte - Stable, rarely voltage locked, but nothing special.

ASUS - Best pre-overclocked cards, but also the largest.

Any of those would be good.

Oh, well I'm not sure. The Mobile GPUs are very different from desktop GPUs, so it'd be hard to distinguish them. I'm sure you could figure out if you google some benchmarks though.

Also, I have more questions:

1. Does vram that you assign in the BIOS function the same way GDDR5 RAM on a GPU does but slower?

2. Is buying a factory OC card the same as doing it yourself?

3. Will factory OC'd (sc & ssc) cards have a decreased life span, similar to if you do it yourself?

I'm not sure what you're asking in your first question, but for your second questions; overclocking makes it run hotter, meaning it's lifespan decreases as it goes long durations being hotter than it should. With that said, I have a 670 FTW which is a factory overclocked 670 up to about 1100MHz, and my temperatures never go above 55-60, so in my experience it shouldn't kill the card faster but it could be different between brands. Most often the factory overclocked cards will have better cooling than a reference card.

It's a completely different type of RAM.

2. Is buying a factory OC card the same as doing it yourself?Every card is different, just like how every CPU is different. Rarely will two CPU's be stable at the same clocks with the same voltages. For GPU's, the cards that OC better are chosen for the factory OC'd cards.

3. Will factory OC'd (sc & ssc) cards have a decreased life span, similar to if you do it yourself? Even if I pushed my 570 to 400 MHz above what it is now, it would only shorten its 10-15 year lifespan by one year. You should never worry about lowering the lifespan of your components via overclocking unless you're flat out applying too much voltage. My friend runs his i7 at 5.2 GHz 24/7 for two years now and it's perfectly fine.

What does it do exactly? I set mine to max (1024 MB) in the BIOS since I have 8 GB of RAM. Now in My Computer, it says I have 6.94 GB usable RAM (which is ok with me).

Will the RAM that I dedicated improve performance in games or anything?

It would help but not very much. I think. It really comes down to how good your GPU is.

The P8Z77-V is the "regular" version. The models you listed are more low end reiterations of the board. I have the P8Z77-V and it has the UEFI BIOS.

Plus, you also get free RAM with the board.

Anyway, who wants to go on Left 4 Dead 2? Hit me up on Steam.
Maybe if I knew your steam name.

Damnit guys, all these Nvidia and AMD bundle deals are driving me mad. On one hand, with the AMD bundle, I probably would only play one out of the four games, but get a better card. But with the Nvidia bundle, I'd play and enjoy both games, but get a somewhat worse card. What's your guys opinions on it? I really have no preference towards either company, so I'm welcome to go to either one.

If you take into account the CUDA cores on nVidia's cards, they'd be better for photo editing and video editing, if you do any of that. Would that persuade you to nab a 670?

proud casual gamer

hey guys, im finally getting the monitor for my build and im looking for about a 23 inch ips display with speakers. so far ive found these two monitors boop boop. I cant really decide between the two as i see no real difference. so i was wondering what you guys think, and if you have any alternate suggestions for a monitor within that spec/price range.

Not really. I do a little bit of Photoshop stuff here and there, and maybe in the future a little bit of video editing, but not enough where the CUDA cores would be a deciding factor.
By the way, right now, I think my budget for the GPU is about $400, so I'm really either looking at a 7970 or higher end 670.
