Well, considering I can still get XP and run just about any game still...I'm not going to get an OS I don't want and can easily skip when the time comes.
I suggest you don't.

Some games don't even run on XP.

Hurr

For my netbook I found a Windows 7 anytime activation product key, put it in, downloaded it, downloaded a Windows activation program.

Bam

Yeah. Microsoft is dropping support for XP next year and the Windows 8 style is here to stay, so get used to it guys.

OEM just means that the OS can only be installed and activated 1 time.
Not exactly. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. You are only licensed to install it on a new machine (hence it's often referred to as a system builder's copy), cannot use it as an upgrade on an existing machine, and cannot move the install to a different computer (you can do this with non-OEM Windows licences; in other words, it is bound to the machine it is first installed on).

You can, however, do as many installs/reinstalls of the OS - on the same machine - as you'd like. You may have to call support to get it reactivated, though.

Support for Windows 7 is prolonged to 2020.

I was referring to Windows 7 OEM....not like....hardware OEM...if there is such a thing.

But I didn't know that you could get Windows reactivated by contacting Microsoft. I'll keep that handy.

Plenty of time for me to not upgrade until the next....and hopefully better.....version of Windows.

Often times you won't even need to do anything to get it reactivated. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but Microsoft does allow X amount of installs in Y amount of time on the same key (so long as there are not two machines running with the same key at any given time) because they know people like to do fresh installs every so often.

I worked in one of the IT labs of my university when I was going to school, and we had to flash a clean install of XP to each machine at the beginning of every semester (fall, spring, summer - so three times a year). The university had a volume license, which made things easier, but each computer had its own unique key. We only had to call support once out of the two years that I worked there to get Microsoft's manual activation.

Will you really want the same OS for 10 years? Windows 8 is actually very nice. I have been using it for a week now and it's my favorite windows.

My motherboard has this number counter on it.

Anybody know what this is used for?

It's used to diagnose faults, essentially it functions similarly to the BIOS beeps.

I believe it displays POST codes. They should be in the manual.

It should function similarly to this, mind the funky music.

If there's an error or a problem of some sort, like bad RAM, a letter and number will appear identifying the problem. You can find what all of the error codes mean online or in your motherboard's manual.

And just so you know, whenever the computer starts up it cycles through every error code and then goes away, so don't be alarmed at first. At least, it does that on my brother's Z68 ASrock board.

Yeah, on my ASUS board. The LEDs indicting a fault in a specific component will cycle during boot, despite not having actual faults.

Ok...thanks guys!

And just saying....I was really hoping to go with the ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard....but unfortunately I wasn't able to fit it in though.

But hey....I got this ASRock board for a steal almost ($105....regular price is $135), and the board sems to have everything that I need....so I am very happy with this purchase!

I'll let you guys know how all of my parts fare.

Ok...well...where I actually plug them in at? Cause my motherboard doesn't have any molex connectors....and neither does my PSU.

Well, all the fans on my case were on one molex cable, and that's powered by a molex power cable on my PSU. I think that's what you were asking.

My case's exhaust fan hooks up to the motherboard by a fan header. I assume my front fans are powered by Molex.

I've seen motherboards with molex connectors on them, but otherwise most are just powered by the PSU. And some chassis fans or power fans need to be powered by the motherboard, but I guess it just depends on the case.
