If Microsoft follows their patterns for the past ten years, W9 will be worth the upgrade.

They should call it something else

I played around in the new Aftermath maps for Battlefield 3. Then I realised how crappy my keyboard is, it lacks any form of n-key rollover.

I got revived but I became immobilised because I hit more than 3-4 keys. Then I became easy prey...

Is AMD really that bad compared to modern intel?
No, AMD offers good price for performance and are great for budget builds or general use, but typically Intel CPUs perform much better for single-threaded tasks (like most games), and Intel usually performs better for multi-core tasks too. You can find plenty of benchmarks through google, or you can use anandtech.com

I was put off AMD by the horror stories tbh.

Overheating, DOA, Lack of Drivers, Bad drivers...

I did my research and opted Intel. Glad I did.
Drivers? If you're talking about CPUs, then none of those are or ever were a problem with AMD CPUs. If you're talking about GPUs, then none of those problems are relevant anymore. They were a problem in the past, but now their cards are in the lead.

Exactly, AMD GPUs are very good now, I'm pretty sure they have the best card on the market too.

My Corsair Vengeance 4x4 1600Mhz says you look UGLY Gskill!!!

I don't know how much you guys know about RAID, but anyway I have a 240GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD in my build. If I bought a 2TB HDD would I be able to RAID it so that it automatically backs up both the drives? Or would I have to buy 2 back up drives??? Sorry I can't remember which RAID # it is.

This is the PC I plan on building, let me know if I can save money anywhere or get a better deal anywhere.
CPU: I would get an Ivy bridge that's priced similarly.
Mobo: Fine
RAM: Fine. It's CAS 8 as opposed to 9, which is why it's $10 more, but it also matches the color scheme.
SSD: You're going to run out of space really quick, so don't expect to put anything other than programs on that.
HDD: If you like WD, go for it. A Seagate would be faster, but it's mostly personal preference.
GPU: Fine.
Case: DO NOT GET! Look at the pictures. The outside looks good, but the inside is just awful. No rubber grommets? Please. Check out the Corsair 400R.
PSU: You need at least 500W, but 600W would provide optimum efficiency (60-80% load). I suggest the Neo ECO as a low end. You'll also need to buy a power cord as it does not come with one.
Optical: Fine.

Funny. I used to run 2x4GB 1866 MHz Corsair Vengeance and I swapped it out for G.Skill :P Lifetime warranty = best.

The only good low profile is this. I managed to overclock it to 2133 MHz and 9-9-9-24-1T latency.

Eww, top mounted power supply.

Also, if you want a SSD, get at least a 120GB SSD.

im in the middle of doing some stability testing on my 3770k and i was doing some research on good voltages. i read on toms hardware that they were having trouble getting their cpu to 4.6 on 1.36 volts and that the cpu would throttle. i have a 212 evo cooling the processor and i used the software OC utility in my BIOS to OC to 4.65 and it was at 1.3 volts dead and temps haven't rose past 75 degrees. how is that possible? is overclocking that big of a hit or miss?

But it do.

Benchmarked Crysis 2 on my current old computer. High settings for both results, DX11 disabled and High res textures enabled.
Native Res (720p, 1360x768)
Avg: 26.149 - Min: 19 - Max: 32

Sub-native Res (360p, 800x600)
Avg: 38.939 - Min: 23 - Max: 57

Eh. From my experience the 800x600 is playable, but it sure is ugly. Can't wait to build this new machine. Here's my current specs:

Windows 8 (Comp originally came with XP PRO / Media Center)
4GB DDR2 Ram
Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz
PNY Geforce GT 430 (comp originally came with an ATI X1300PRO)
1TB Seagate Barracuda @ 7200RPM (Comp originally came with Seagate Barracuda 400GB)

I'll be reusing the HDD and OS in my new PC since I got a non-oem version of Windows 8 Pro.

Can you believe that in 06 this computer was around $2000?

Think of the range of maximum overclocks as a bell curve. They refer to the middle, while yours might be more towards the right.

But until you've run a 24-hour Prime95 test, your CPU isn't stable.
