Good, good... I recommend picking up the 3820 at microcenter, since it's almost $100 off there.
I hope to God that you realized we were trolling you.

Posted by: ABotelhoThe BEST mini-itx case, bar none. You can fit a GTX 690 with watercooling in there if you wanted to (and people have done it).

I was gonna tell you that my build was mATX as opposed to miniITX, but then I realized the only thing that had been holding me back from miniITX was that, originally, my processor was AMD.

Thanks!
Could you put everything into a PCPP link and post your budget? I'd just like to review it if you don't mind.

This is what I'm currently at. It only needs a motherboard.

I'd say my budget is around 750-800$.

Even though the 3820 is better? There isn't a single reason to not get it over 1155 if your budget supports it.

Wifi is unnecessary for this build. Is there a motherboard like it without Wifi?

How does this look? The PSU is kinda meh but I managed to fit an i5 and a 660 in there.

Alright, well. I'm already set when it comes to an HDD, don't need that. I also don't need a CD drive, as I'm virtually all digital.

As for the aftermarket cooler, is it really needed? It is recommended?

If you want to overclock, YES. If you aren't overclocking, it will still be more silent and run about 30*C cooler. The stock Intel is notoriously bad, trust me.

Now you can afford a 660 Ti.

Sounds like the after market cooler is worth it, especially for so little.

Would it be possible to get the price down at least another 20$ though? I don't know if you have PCPartPicker set to Canada, but it's at $819.72. 800$ is max.

This build is primarily for CAD, Revit and Photoshop. What's more important between a better CPU and a better GPU for those applications?

CPU, definitely, although you want to stick with nVidia because of CUDA.

Brought it back down to the 660 and upped to 16GB of RAM. It's not like you need to spend $800. The only thing that would help is getting a more efficient PSU because it would bring electrical bills down.

Perfect, I appreciate the help.

As for the PSUs, is the difference in efficiently significant? Would I actually be seeing noteworthy savings in electricity?

You wouldn't see a difference in savings until maybe a year, so it's not really worth it. The total watts matters more, and 600 if perfect (60-80% load is the most efficient).

NH-D14?
I believe so actually, but I think you have to remove the top fan of the case and place it outside.

Alright, I'll stick with the original PSU.

I greatly appreciate the help. Going to order now.

Thanks to everybody who helped. I'll be sure to post pictures in a few weeks.

But it do.

My friend wants to build a computer and he came to me for help. $1000 budget, this is what I went with:

He won't be overclocking which is why I went with a non K 3570.

If you're getting an aftermarket cooler and a Z77, just get the K version anyway in case you ever change your mind. No reason not to.

That's pretty good, although he has room for a modular PSU, a better case, and a better mobo:

Whats the difference between SATA 3 gbps, SATA 6 gbps, and eSATA?

I kinda know a little, but not really.

  • 12.10.2012 8:25 PM PDT

MLP: FiM Master Moderator: | Homepage | My Steam Profile | My Computer |

I don't know the exact speeds, but in a nutshell, HDD's can't reach SATA III (6gbps) speeds, so you can plug them into either port. SSD's can surpass SATA II (3gbps) speeds, but just barely, so you only want to use them with SATA III if you can. eSATA is slower than both and normally only used with external drives.

You would still put your HDD in your SATA 6 port if you don't have any SSD's.

$105 for a platinum PSU.
