But could it be the problem? I get the same performance with the old monitor as with this TV monitor. They're both 60hz. I'd hate to get a new monitor, only to have the same problems.

I just want play without this or this greatly affecting my experience.
If vsync fixes stirring what is the issue?

Yeah, so tearing isn't a problem with me. It's just the stuttering from the first vid. I do use vsync, but that's what causes the stuttering for me. Adaptive vsync seems to work a bit better than vsync + triple buffering, but I still get bad stuttering. I've read that D3DOverrider works wonders, but I wasn't able to run the program.

Maybe I should ask: Is this normal for PC gaming, the stuttering?

Then again, trying to fix this is really interfering with my drawing and whatnot. Maybe I should stop, but then again, the thought of it will keep on bothering me.

The only time that happened for me was on some game that I obtained in less than legal ways (years ago, before I learned of steam). I don't know what to tell ya, list your full specs?

I'm doubting its your TV. But if you have a spare monitor, test it out.

I think its simply time to upgrade your graphics card.

I was using a dell monitor from 2005 before the tv, same results in regard to the stuttering issue.

That does seem like an option, but I don't know what to look for,

Try to pick a mobo from this list. Yes, I know it's Fry's, but that's where I bought my stuff and I'll have to make do with their selection for now. Ordering online isn't really an option at the moment.
THIS!!!

I know it's Z68, but that's a $180 motherboard normally. I own the P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3.

...are these yours?

Either way, those are just stunning!

edit: What are the keys in picking a good motherboard? Let's say I want to utilize a SSD, and a PCI 3.0 GPU. What do I need?

There's too many motherboards from the $100-$200 that don't seem to be different...
They aren't mine, but I have plenty of links to builds like them.

For motherboards:

Get an AsRock or ASUS. MSI and Gigabyte work fine, but they're not the best value for your money. Everything else is meh.

First, you might want to check the RAM slots. 4 DIM's that can at least run 1600 are preferable.

Then look at the SATA ports. You want two SATA6 and around four SATA3. Eight (four of each) is even better.

You might want a PS/2 port for a mechanical keyboard or multiple USB3 ports for your back panel, so look at that. Also, check to see if it has a USB 3 port that can plug into your case.

If you want to overclock, do some research. Generally, you want the newest chipset unless you can get a good deal on an old one. The "features" that are included on motherboards probably don't matter if you don't already know what they are.

And like you said, check to see if it has a PCI 3.0 port or if it can run x16/x16 instead of x8/x8.

Ok sweet. Nice to see I wasn't too far off. I mean, there's an ASRock one for like $110 that has everything you just listed, and I see other boards that around like $50-$60 more and basically have nothing extra.

Definitely leaning toward ASRock right now.

edit: I'm seeing a lot of PCI 3.0 x16/x0

What's that mean?

Those $50 boards (H61, H77, B75) are NOT meant for overclocking and actually have lower-quality solder, so they don't last as long. In-game, you would probably get the same, if not a slightly smaller FPS amount. You might also have longer loading times.

@Eagle: Damn. This is the only ASUS mobo that can be used with Ivy without having to update the BIOS (which requires a sandy CPU).

Yeah damn dude. You buy a badass CPU+RAM with no beef in the GPU area to back it up!?!

Newegg page.

It only has a 4-pin CPU connector, but I don't think it needs any more since you aren't overclocking and it's a smaller mobo.

You'll definitely want to upgrade it in the future though. You wouldn't have to upgrade for a while if you got this.

Lol, yeah, when'd you buy that rig? Why'd you go with such a low-end GPU?

Also, I'm thinking of getting a SSD with my rig, since I keep seeing all these great 830 deals. Will 64GB be enough, because I can pick one of those up for $60 right now.

No, not at all. My programs alone take up 70GB, and that's not even including the operating system. On top of that, you want at least some RPG games on your SSD to utilize the loading times.

@Fluffy
So I should try to get a 128GB? If I go for that, I'll probably end up getting an 840 then, since that's only $10 more.

Eh, maybe around $200 area.

Thing is, I got my pc pre-build :/ So, that's why it's a bit weird that I have a low end card compared with the other specs.

This was before my gained knowledge of computers.

Oh.. Uh, $200... 7850. I'm not sure how easy it is to replace parts in prebuilts though.

Sounds good. I think I'm gonna get a 830 just because they've been proven to be reliable.

  • 12.12.2012 5:15 PM PDT

Thanks for reading my signature!

Just wondering, how much desk space do you guys have? I want to put a 27" monitor and my PC on a desk, can't decide between a 1m glass desk and a 1.2m slightly crappier looking wood one, both 0.6m deep.

Thanks.

That's something else that worries me. I should study my system unit before tearing it apart.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. How much performance gain is there from the 830 to the 840?
