Does anybody on this forum know much about higher end gaming monitors? I was considering this one, but Im not sure.

Will you be using the "3D" settings? If not, I'm sure there's a cheaper monitor out there with 120hz without that setting.

No, I don't really care to play in 3d. I can't really find too many that don't have the 3d settings though and that still have a lot of reviews for great performance. My main concern is great performance in normal gaming and pretty good picture quality as well.

We should be in both, but that's just my opinion.
Same here. Joined both.

I'm on holiday here and I found out that many people seem to have the Microsoft Surface. Quite an interesting observation.

Is a sound card necessary? Never included it in any possible builds... Why would I get one?

Can anyone tell me why This doesn't work with this?

It sucks crashing every couple hours due to -blam!- memory.

Also, could anyone recommend a good set of 8gb of ram?
The memory must not be compatible with the motherboard.

GSkill or Corsair Vengeance for new memory.

Motherboards have built in sound cards (some better than others) so they aren't necessary. If you have a soundcard then it will make everything through your headphones sound much better.

Fluffy owns the best or one of the best soundcards on the market, so he'd be better to answer.

The Asus VH236H is the monitor that was used in MLG for a long period of time, although I think they recently switched to BenQ. Nonetheless, it's a fantastic monitor. Everyone I know who PC games has one, and loves it.

Linky.

They are compatible, they're probably just broken.

Theoretically, from which place should I enable the vsync options: control panel or in-game?

They're usually in the game, but sometimes you need to edit the .ini file.

I figured I'd share this.

The biggest complaints in Windows 8 are the lack of start menu, and the horrendous system of 2 application environments. After a bit of tinkering, I've come up with a configuration that works very well.

Here's what I'm talking about.

I started by downloading a program called OblyTile. I'm sure most of you might know it by now. But for those who don't, it basically makes tiles for your legacy apps and places them in your Start Screen. All you gotta do is find the tile packs scattered all over the web.

What makes this work is that I've removed all 'Metro style' apps from my start screen. You can also add titles to your groups, making it very organized. In the end, you basically have a really pretty start menu that you can quickly access my pressing the Windows key.

What. You don't need a program for that. Whenever I install a program, it does it for me, and if it doesn't, you just press win key, search for program, right click and pin to start. I'm not sure if there's something special about this, but it seems pretty stupid.

If you like hideous tiles, sure.

All the tiles are is just the icons with whatever color scheme you have surrounding it. Nothing really that ugly about it, I could go to my desktop and see the exact same thing. But, it's not like anyone still uses the start screen... right?

I supposed they aren't ugly by themselves, but they certainly don't fit into the Windows 8 look in my opinion.

And that's just it. Originally, I was using Classic Shell. I stayed the hell away from the Start Screen. But after discovering OblyTile and ridding myself of those awful Metro apps, I find the start screen works like a charm. Fills the exact same purpose the Start menu did in previous Windows, just in a different format.

I get the impression that a 'beta driver' isn't the most stable thing around.

  • 12.13.2012 4:12 PM PDT

yeah i think im going to bump down to the 306 driver.
