Anybody who can lend a hand is a helper.

You don't need to dedicate your time in this thread like some of us do.

He's probably putting it under some sort stress test or benchmark program (meaning it pushes the CPU to full load continuously). It wouldn't get to those temperatures from just everyday use.
> 1 GHz speed.

Nope, the Intel stock fan is just that bad. Yes, it is seated properly. Yes, I did try it with both the stock paste and Arctic 5. The issue is that Intel doesn't test their coolers, so not all of them make proper contact with the CPU.
So you're saying it's a problem with your particular heat sink? Because that seems a lot more believable than saying every stock cooler has those temperatures. I'm assuming the majority of computers use that cooler and I doubt they all run at those temperatures.
Just my heatsink? More like 1/3 of all of the heatsinks they make, lol. Why else would people buy aftermarket coolers even when they aren't overclocking? Oh yeah, you never owned an Intel heatsink.
Well, I'm pretty sure that the desktop I had 5 years ago had one...

Sorry to bother but I was just wondering if you guys could help me out here. I still don't know that much about building a PC, but I did run a test to see if I could actually build a decent PC. Here is the link to my build, please tell me if it's at least passable.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Mishen/saved/#savedbuild_226264

I asked on Yahoo Answers and I got 3 answers. All three said to get a better power supply and 1 person said that I should get an AMD processor. Really helped a lot so I'm asking on here.

EDIT: Oops! I forgot to mention that I'm getting a gaming computer! Stupid me!

Also my budget is at least $600. I'm not looking for a recommended build, just if my build is decent.

Better build

You say you're getting those temps... idle, with a stock Intel fan? There's something very wrong there. If you were running them full load I'd expect those kind of temps...

You should definitely spend less on the motherboard and upgrade the power supply, switch the RAM to 2x4, and change the case to the Corsair 200R.

CPU: You're spending $20 more on a CPU that only has better integrated graphics than an i3 3220. There's no reason to do this, so save yourself the extra money and get the 3220.

Mobo: That's an excellent motherboard, but it's pretty high-end for your budget. If you plan on getting an i5 or i7 later overclocking, keep it. If you aren't, get an AsRock Z77 Extreme4 instead, which is $30 cheaper.

RAM: There are only three brands you need to know about: G.Skill, which has a lifetime warranty, Corsair, which is a great brand but not any better than G.Skill, and Samsung, which as opposed to the other two brands, only sells one type of RAM stick, which overclocks super high but doesn't look very pretty.

Your stick is a 1x8GB, meaning that it can't utilize dual-channel memory. You want a 2x4GB, but keep it at the same 1600 MHz speed that you already selected. I suggest this.

Storage: A 1TB Sata6 64MB would only be dollars more.

Video card: That graphics card is pretty low end for gaming. I'd suggest getting a 7850 with the money from downgrading your other parts. This is a 2GB model, so make sure that if you purchase it from a different website, it's the same exact model. Some cards are only different by one letter in their name.

Case: NEVER NEVER NEVER purchase Antec cases. They have no room behind the motherboard for cables. You want to look at Corsair, NZXT, and some Cooler Master cases. The 200R is a great budget case.

PSU: That's a pretty cheap PSU, and not in a good way. It's not 80+ rated, non-modular (the cables are all attached as opposed to being removable), and the cables aren't sleeved. It's also a low-wattage PSU. You want at least 500, preferable 600 for one GPU. I'd suggest the OCZ modular 600W.

No prob. If you have any other questions, let me know.

You also need an optical drive, and you'll have to "download" Windows 7. I'll get you a PCPP link in a second.

Final build.

He's only getting an i3, so if he got a B75 or H77 board he could more easily fit in a 7850.

Do you guys have any recommendations for All-in-One PCs? My parents are looking for a new PC. Their budget is under 800$. This is for shipping to Canada.

They don't do any kind of heavy work on it; basic stuff like document editing, email, web browsing and watching the occasional video. AMD vs Intel doesn't matter, as long as it suits their needs. They're apparently also interested in Touch.

Get something from Sony, Lenovo, Asus, or Samsung that has Windows 8 in it. This is a good one. Upgrade it to Windows 8 though.

So guys, ordering monitor and GPU tomorrow. One of those comes with a HDMI cable, right?

If you ordered them on newegg, the final picture on the item page usually shows all of the cords included. I doubt it, but you should check anyway.

Salty, recommend me a monitor $150> that's 1080p, preferably with built in speakers. I can spend about $15 more though, if it'll really make a difference.

This or this larger one for only slightly more.

What is the i5 goes on sale at Microcenter again for $99, but he only has an H77 board? Again, the motherboard is going to last longer than the GPU.

They never come with HDMI cables, but they always have a DVI cable.

Would they be interested in a laptop? It would be a much better deal for the price, and they can always purchase a monitor later if they want a bigger screen.

The first one is LED-backlit. Go with that one.

What does this "ASCR" thing mean? And will it really affect anything with one being 20000:1 and the other 1,000,000:1? What benefit will I notice of one being LED backlit while the other isn't? Also, Fluffy, just checked, my GPU says it comes with a HDMI.

If he was going to upgrade from the i3 later on wouldn't it make sense to do it to an entirely different socket type? Besides, the $99 i5 was a black friday deal and you can still use an i5 on an H77 board just fine obviously.

I think the appeal of the All-in-One is the keyboard detached from the screen. Basically having a desktop without the tower.

It's honestly disappointing that the prices for All-in-Ones are so marked up. They're basically non-mobile laptops.

Like fluffy said, the contrast ratio doesn't matter. Also I don't have experience with the difference between LED and LCD. I have an LCD monitor, the VH242H and it's just fine for me. I've heard people say that LED monitors are better but I don't know for sure.
