You don't. DDR2 was always expensive. This is why we're using DDR3.

DDR2 is just becoming less common and therefore more expensive. DDR memory is generally even more costly than DDR2.
And because they were expensive to make in the first place.
DDR2? How old is the laptop?

Anybody know anywhere I can buy laptop DDR2 RAM for cheap?[/quote]You don't. DDR2 was always expensive. This is why we're using DDR3.

Well -blam!-. I actually have some DDR2 RAM lying around somewhere, at those prices, I could make one hell of a quick buck.

I'm guessing it's from at least 2007. My parents got me a Dell Inspiron back in Xmas of '08 that has DDR2 RAM, but then again it is a Dell.

My '08 MacBook had DDR3 RAM.

Yeah, maybe because it's a Dell.

Why the hate on Dell? I've had mine since 06 with no issues at all.

Dells are only good if you need to order a large amount of cheap business computers, as they offer better wholesale prices than HP or any other company.

A lot of their computers are very overpriced. It's good for businesses since you can get discounts, but I would never buy one for home use.

I've seen dells sold for $5000 that were literally worth less than $900. Price doesn't really mean much at all when it comes to prebuilts. Now, companies will often up the processor from an i5 to an i7 and charge several hundred dollars for doing so. It's kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, I really don't get why all these pre-builts come with i7s. If only they knew the ripoff they get.

Proud Spartan II, COG soldier, Hero of time, and crowbar wielding scientist.

Alright flood, I stated this in my last post, and the time has come.
I'm about to order my parts for my ~1000 dollar build, and I want to make sure everything is completely optimized for the money.
I was put together this bad boy by TopWarGamer, and I'm going to order this, but with windows 7 and all the parts from newegg.
So is this the best final build I can get for the price and CPU/GPU?
I'd like your proffesional approvals. :P

Personally, I would get G.Skill or Corsair RAM and an EVGA/MSI/ASUS GPU, but your build would work fine.

I can't just go willy nilly and get whatever video card, right? Or can any type/brand fit in my system unit? Also, would anyone recommend me a card that is around $250 or lower?

Pretty much same thing PMC said, get G.Skill or Corsair RAM, I'd recommend an EVGA GPU, they have some 670s on sale right now. And I'd also recommend a Seasonic PSU, but that's just me.

For a dual-core processor which is better, AMD or Intel? As well as a quad-core, who's better? I've been Googling it and I can't get any clear answer...

SeaSonic actually makes XFX's PSU's.

If you have a dedicated graphics card, Intel is always the better choice. AMD has better integrated graphics which makes it better for budget systems.

As long as your mobo has a x16 lane slot and two spare 6-pins, you can buy whatever.

Intel is pretty much always better than AMD in terms of performance. More cores doesn't necessarily mean the CPU is going to perform better.
