My dads buying me one that gives me a 10 minute battery backup in case something bad happens.

Just make sure it can actually support the voltage and whatnot that your computer needs when on battery. I have one that supposedly lasts an hour and it doesn't even attempt to keep my computer on (keeps the monitor on though).

Oh, that's true. I guess I'll have to look into that.

So when I build my computer, should it all be very straight forward, or should I use the Newegg video guide.

It's pretty straight forward. The motherboard manual is going to the most helpful during your build. The videos Newegg have are good references for what to anticipate. I've also written a guide which is linked in the main post.

The motherboard manual will tell me where everything goes, I assume?

  • 12.20.2012 7:17 PM PDT

i don't know of this is supposed to happen or not but every time i record using dxtory it creates two of the exact AVI file, and its eating my frame-rates. is there some thing i should change to make the duplicate file go away?

It's pretty self-explanatory. I never even used a manual or video tutorial.

Put CPU in mobo.
Put RAM in mobo.
Put HSF on mobo.
Put PSU in case.
Put mobo in case.
Put HDD and optical in case.
Route the PSU cables out the back.
Plug in the 24 and 8 pin connectors.
Plug in the SATA cables.
Plug in the front-panel connectors.
Plug in the GPU cables.
Plug in any additional fans.
Done.

It'd help if that wasn't all one big sentence.

And, if what you're trying to say is you're getting kernel panics on OSX installed on non Apple hardware, it sounds like that's tough luck. You should have known it wouldn't be completely stable on non Apple hardware. But, try recording what the panic message says to diagnose the problem.

What type of motherboard are you using? I have a friend who has made a few Hackintoshes with Gigabyte boards. I also assume you're using an Intel processor.

They either send you an email with the code or the code is with the graphics card itself. I don't know how they do it.

Well they never asked for my email and I can't open the card until Christmas so I guess I'll have to wait.

That...nice.
You should definitely go for the i7.
I'd suggest the 670/660ti if you want also to do some gaming.

As long as your mobo has a x16 lane slot and two spare 6-pins, you can buy whatever.

GPU

Are there other options? Is this the best for that price? Don't get me wrong, I trust your knowledge, but I'm just curious to know some more choices :)
