Alright. Also, would you recommend a sound card before a SSD?

Why would you say that? Just curious.

Have you looked into getting a fan controller?

That could work.

So how do fans work? Let's say I have a power cable conncted to my PSU that has 3 SATA power connectors. One of the connectors is being used by an HDD. I have 2 free connectors. Let's say I connect 2 fans on the same connector, and the other fan on the last connector.

How would the fan controller fit in all that? Where does it connect? What's the difference between connecting fans to the motherboard as opposed to the PSU? And would 2 fans connected to the same SATA sonnector using an adapter forcibly have to be tweaked together?

Just seems like better audio, especially with the equipment you'll be getting will be better than an SSD. You can always get an SSD later anyway.

Can anybody suggest a fan controller that fits in a 5.25" bay under 25$ for Canada?

I keep finding a bunch of American places for that price, but when I turn and look at the same product on the Canadian page, they bump up the price 10$ and add 10$ shipping.

edit: Would I even need a fan controller? Can the fans not be controlled from my BIOS/OS if they're plugged into my PSU?

How much of a pain would it be to take Windows off my HDD and move it onto my SSD when I do get one? And would that mean I'd have to reinstall all my programs since Windows would be in a different location?

You would have to reinstall Windows, there's no real way to copy over your operating system.

No, only the four pin fan cables that connect to the motherboard can be adjusted, unless there's a fan controller on the case like the NZXT Phantom cases.

  • 12.23.2012 3:43 PM PDT

Would it be possible for me to get a single fan controller and connect both my fans to it with a splitter and control them together, connected to the PSU? Then plug my final smaller fan to my motherboard and control that fan from the BIOS?

It depends on the PSU you're getting. Some of the higher end ones have built-in controllers for case fans, but check to make sure your PSU supports this. Otherwise they will have to adjusted elsewhere or will run at a constant speed.

If your fans have 3-pin head connectors, you can connect them to your motherboard instead which can control the speeds of the fans (and can be manipulated in the BIOS).

Well, it seems I wasn't wrong. After doing some research, I don't seem to be the only one having problems mounting the Hyper 212+ unto the P8H77-I. One of the circuit pieces under the motherboard does in fact interfere with the bottom plate. PMC Fluffy, I don't know how the hell you managed. Maybe the difference between the P8Z77-I and the P8H77-I is what made it possible.

Would it be safe to use rubber/plastic or even metal washers instead of the bottom plate? Taking into consideration I'm using the BitFenix Prodigy, so the motherboard is horizontal.

There's a clip on the side of it, just push that in and pull the cable out of the socket. It's often tough to pull out, you just have to be firm, but careful.

That thing is a bloody -blam!- to remove. I've always removed it by slowly lifting each side sort of as if you were wiggling it loose.

I've unplugged everything except for that.

Yeah, I knew that. But, would I have to reinstall all my programs after reinstalling my OS?

Alright I bought a wireless card, and there are no drivers for it compatible with Windows 8.

Can I run the driver in compatibility mode?

A windows 7 driver should work just fine, since the underlying code in Windows 7 and Windows 8 is pretty similar.

So, yes.
