Ok, during planetside 2 play time mine reached 70.5*C. Not too bad eh?
Shouldn't be an issue.

The GTX 690 goes up to 80-ish C.

G-guys, a little help?
You have an AMD card, which obviously doesn't have PhysX, but Metro requires PhysX to run. Download PhysX from the Metro installation folder and install it.

Posted by: superbunnie
Also, if I have stereo headphones, would a sound card make a difference?
As long as it isn't USB.
Wrong. I was playing it earlier with my AMD card and I didn't have to install anything extra. But no, the headphones aren't USB. What exactly will this sound card do?
That's because Metro installs PhysX when you first start the game, but it must not have worked for Splatter for some reason.

And the soundcard would give you Dolby Surround, which would help a lot in games like Counter Strike where you can hear enemy footsteps. It would also provide better sampling, a slight increase in FPS due to it taking away the audio duty of the motherboard, and give you a better response time. It depends a lot on what headphones you have though.

Except the 7970 outpeforms the 670, and you can still use Physx but it'll be offloaded to the CPU.

The 7970 is the best single-GPU card you can get currently.
Plot twist. Salty owns a 670.

I'll admit, I laughed at that. Then again, he did buy one when they were the best out there.

The 7970 is great performance-wise, but you can't have the best graphics without an nVidia card. The funny thing is that if you were to bench both cards on max settings, the nVidia card would be putting up with more stress because its levels of AA are more intensive.

I acknowledge that AMD is better for the price, but I still prefer having a better image.

I got these cheeseburgers man....

If I have driver problems, will Newegg let me RMA it? I keep black screening on Crysis 2, then I have the Crysis 1 fiasco, and I'm getting some screen tearing on Far Cry 3 and BF3. I tried the 12.10 stable, and still had some issues.

Whoops... just realized I don't have my packaging... looks like I'll be keeping it...

Funny how AMD's 12.11 drivers are still in Beta.

I'm running 12.10, is it safe if I wipe my drivers and install 12.11?

I'm sure it's safe. If the driver wasn't stable...AMD wouldn't put it up for an early download.

If you have any troubles with it...you can always download and install 12.10 again.

I did run them briefly but it acted funny so I had to revert to 12.10.

I submitted a bug report but BSODs and random graphical artefacts in GTA IV before.

Screen tearing? Try v-sync.

the flood, there a bunch of jerks, but there my jerks.

Salty try this.

This worked for me:
After getting the error, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install
then hit the physx.exe, and it will uninstall. After it has uninstalled, hit .exe again and now it will install it. then restart your computer. after that go to steam and start the game there and it will work.

I had the same problem on my craptop and might on this computer, I think this is what I did.

Does this card change anything you said once you have OC'd it even further?
I will wait until the end of the world if that's how long it takes for it to come back in stock.

From benches I saw for that specific card is is toe to toe with the 680 on all games I saw, and even the ones with PhysX is puts up a fair fight, but when you over clock BOTH cards to full potential the 7970 Matrix starts to get the edge.

The 7970 will outperform the GTX 680 as it overclocks better.

Except if these higher levels of AA settings were optimized for AMD cards too, they would likely perform better due to the 79xx cards large memory bit size and the amount of VRAM.

And ben, at the time when I bought the 670 it was a lot cheaper than the 7970 and the drivers still weren't working well for AMD cards. If I were to have made the choice now I would have gotten the 7970.

I think my GPU doesn't have enough space to get proper airflow.

78*C during load.

Well, that was as high as it got and I was in an intense battle on planetside.

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6770 Core Edition. I'm going to go run another test and give the average rather that the highest temperature.

As long as it doesn't go above 80C you should be fine.

If your card is the one linked above, even the highest rated comment said the fan wasn't that great.

Played a bit of Crysis Warhead on Enthusiast, avg temp was 64*C. Max was 76*C. And yes, that would be my card.

On that same review it says that replacing their "disgusting gob of thermal compound" would drop the load temp by about 15* and the idle temp by about 11*.
