Is it worth the wait? Can I get a graphics card that accomplish more or less the same thing that's much cheaper?
Not really. Might as well get a GTX 560Ti, or maybe even a GTX 580 if you want to spend extra. Much more bang for your buck.

How long can I expect to wait for the recent generation of video cards to drop in price? I was thinking about getting the gtx680 but it's a bit over my budget right now.

Is it worth the wait? Can I get a graphics card that accomplish more or less the same thing that's much cheaper?
670 is out now and is only slightly behind the 680 performance wise. If you really need an upgrade now you could just grab one of those.

As you're going to be video/photo editing a lot, I would recommend you get a larger 2TB hard drive, especially since you're going with an SSD as your boot drive.

Get 1333MHz instead of 1600MHz RAM if that's what you're going with. There is literally no performance difference other than in synthesised benchmarks, and even then it is only about 3%.

Everything else looks good. You may also want to consider an aftermarket HS&F if you're going to overclock.

Looks good. Keep in mind you need a case, power supply and a disc drive. Don't skimp on your power supply either, it's the most important part, you'll want a 500-600w but if you want to crossfire your graphics car (Add a second one) then look at a 750-850w. Also make sure it's 80+ certified for reliability and effciency. What games are you playing? The 7970 might even be a little overkill but if you have the money then go for it mate. Ram is so cheep these days you may as well get 1600mhz. There isn't much benefit, but it's more complimentary now.

Not really, that term is used for price/performance ratio, and the GTX 560 Ti is one of the best values there are in "Bang for your Buck" on nVidia cards

Oh crap, that reminds me, I need a wireless PCI for my build.

Any recommendations, or does it not matter? And yes, I have to use a PCI.

Just as long as it's Wireless N with 300 mbit/s rate, it doesn't matter. They're all the same.

Also, what's wrong with USB or a super-long ethernet?

You can pretty much get the same rates on a USB dongle as a PCI, but it wouldn't really matter cause both are relatively cheap.

If your computer's front panel is facing the routher, it would be better to use a USB, since the actual bulk of the computer takes quite a hit on the signal strength, and vice versa.

Other than which way your computer is facing, if you buy a USB, you can put it on the front or the back, a PCI is slightly less wi-fi friendly.

There's nothing wrong with me using ethernet, it's just that... let's just say my computer is in the upper level of the house, and my modem is on the lower level on the opposite side of the house. Having an ethernet cable run through the hallway, down the steps, through the front room, and then the dining room to get to the modem would be a drag.

And while I wouldn't mind having a USB adapter sitting in the front, I already have a dongle for my again mandatory wireless keyboard and mouse sitting in the front. I need at least one of those ports to be open.

But that's wrong.

Memory speed makes a huge difference in the time it takes to write / read from the memory. Loading times are completely dependent on the speed of the memory (providing you have enough addressable space). You want to make sure your motherboard supports the speed of memory you're buying or can overclock to it (else the extra speed is wasted).

I put my wireless keyboard dongle in the back and my dongle in a back with a USB extender cord, so that I can move it around.

Try buying one of those USB extension cords.

A thing to consider is waiting to buy expensive hard drives or spending too much money on them. Soon they will be cheaper I think.

Spend the money on a better cpu or gpu instead.

Yeah it's called a USB Hub.

USB hubs without a mains connection usually split the power, so they aren't recommended.

USB extension cords just give the USB ports more length and flexibility

My tip

HDD prices have recently increased due to flood in Thailand, and production won't be back to normal for quite a while.

All in all, it depends on how much you use up that storage really.

(Generated by PCPartPicker 2012-05-23 19:36 EDT-0400)

Decided I'd go easy on the graphics cards for now and then crossfire another one later on.

I'm not claiming to be an expert here but I hear that the HD 7970 is overpriced for what it offers.

I have a case picked out already, and went with the Blue-Ray/DVD disc drive. I got an 800w power supply, so I should be good! I plan on playing BF2, Crysis, and Black Ops 2 once it comes out. And I have plenty of money to blow.
