Is it possible to build a good gaming computer for less than $500?

I read the first page but I didn't see any questions like that.

Good? Absolutely not.

Bump it up to 700 and you got yourself a decent one

@poster 2 above
The 3570k I'm buying is actually cheaper than the newegg 2500k. My local CompUSA has it for 200 :D

Just saying, but if any of you guys need something, shoot me a PM. I'll be more than happy to help you since I wont be as active in the thread due to school. Wish I could, but I can't.

Happy building.

$300 could give you a decent gaming rig. $500 is more than enough...unless that includes accessories (mouse, keyboard, monitor).

No monitor needed, maybe a keyboard and mouse.

If you are going to run at a resolution below 1920x1080, yes.

My store has erroneous pricing, the 2500K is more expensive than the 3470.

I would definitely settle for the superior architecture.

Wait, check if it's a 3570k or a 3470, as I'm using the 3570k and I'm loving it.

I've got about 430 to get a CPU and GPU. my GIGABYTE Z77-DS3H Mobo has a LGA 1155 socket. 650W PSU. 8GB RAM.

I would go with something in the I5 family, then use the rest of the money on the gpu

The 3470 is a different processor. The i5 Ivy Bridge line-up consists of the 3450, 3470, 3550 and the 3570K.

I'm pretty sure $300 can't, It's pretty impossible. Unless, you had like, amazing connections or something.

It's poosible if you add 50$ to the 300,according to this guide.
And that depends, My rig cost me 1400$ along with the speakers, external hard drive, operating system and it has an i5 3570k, 8GB Ram and a GTX 670.
Though, 500$ is enough for a good PC.

You can get a nice cheap rig if you run low resolutions. Like that guide I think they were running 1680x1050. If you run at like 1280x720 or whatever you could probably get a rig that would max BF3 with 60FPS!

What I could also do is just wait two weeks to get the GPU with my next check and max that out. The extra money can be used on some accessories to improve my pc like a wifi card, media reader, and Disc Drive.

About the 660Ti...wouldn't the 192-bit memory bus be a bottleneck in the future? I might consider the equally-priced HD 7950.

Depends.
The 560ti had a good run, that's for sure.

I was afraid you were going to link that, It's not a decent computer, and only gets those frames on the lowest settings possible. It also only uses onboard video, so the crossfiring thing is BS. Even if you could use Hybrid crossfiring, it's only even an available option for the really crappy GPUs. Even then, it's a horrible option for gaming. HDD's cost is mainly the actual HDD, not for the memory's worth, so for about an extra half, you can get yourself a terrabyte, no-one should ever suggest a 250GB HDD unless it's absolutely nessecary, because at that price, it's nowhere near as good as value you would get for 4 times the amount of space.

It's probably the best you can get for the price, but it really isn't any good if you're hoping for something that can game.

YOU FOOL! THE GOD OF HELLFIRE HAS NO NEED FOR COUPONS!

I made a thread the other day but I'm thinking I'll get more replies here:

I'm looking for a GPU better than the 5570, should I go with 6850 or the gtx 560?

I want to play games at 1080p with little to no lag. I only have 200$.

With 1080p, you're looking at having more VRAM. Either of those cards with 2gb gddr5 should do fine.

Give me an idea on how much money you really want to go to the gpu i can probably find you a better option than the 560 ti, its a decent card but a little extra money can get you a few hundred more CUDA cores.
