If I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good nite.

In the Halo 2 special edition with the conversations from the universe the one convo I thought most interesting was the letter from Cassandra.

117,

As you might imagine - though I know you won\'t - I\'ve heard quite a bit of your recent adventures on the Halo. I\'m glad you made it; I have to assume you always will. Recovery is going well and I am proceeding on to fourth stage rehabilitation. It is significantly more painful than previous stages, but I\'m happy to be skinned once again.

I hear that you will be testing the new Mark VI. I will definitely look for the reports on how it works out. The specs are obviously improved, but the choice to incorporate further Covenant technology somehow makes my skin crawl.

We miss you, John. I\'ve asked Sargeant Johnson to let me know if you\'re ever near the M25L Recovery Station and perhaps I\'ll be able to come see you. I\'m hoping I\'ll have the chance soon. Today, humanity feels pale and thin with only ghosts to defend her heart. I feel much the same.

I\'ll write again.

-Cassandra

Did anyone learn her identity and what significance she has? She might be a recovering spartan who was injured beyond return to battle. Just a thought.

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

Well, look at it this way: Bungie didn't include this message just for the hell of it. They'll probably reveal the answers in Halo 3.

Im thinking that cassandra was one of the spartans that didn't quite make it when they were getting the augmentations. It sounds like it

well the letter is obiously not canon since Cassandra was the first spartan to be killed by Brutes. Read the book First Strike when MC and some other spartans are attacking a Covie supply station she is the first casualty of the attack

I would love it if there was another couple of books released. That would make for a lot of questions to be answered. My guess, though, is there will be no such release until after Halo 3.

It'll probably be explained in the new halo book that's currently being written, under the cover name ghosts of coral. If you look in the conversations booklet, you see a letter referring to coral, so I think everything in that booklet is probably related.

Um, firstly, the first one to be killed by Brutes was Grace, not Cassandra. Cassandra isn't even mentioned in the books.

And secondly, for a Spartan, she's pretty dumb. Seriously. Who spells Sergeant 'Sargeant'? ...not any of the Spartans that I know of.

Thirdly, all of the other Spartans that we know of address the Master Chief as 'Squad Leader'--there are no references of them ever addressing him as 'John'--the only one that calls him by name is Dr. Halsey, so far as from what we've seen from the books.

And 117--none of the other Spartans address each other by their number designation, aside from Sam who was impersonating Chief Petty Officer Mendez during The Fall of Reach, and their 'team designations' (i.e., Red 21, Red 18, Blue 2, etc).

Only one person has called the Master Chief '117'--Chief Petty Officer Mendez (this does NOT include 'Trainee-117' inferences, just '117'). Fall of Reach, pg. 46

He patted John on the shoulder. "Watch out for wolves in the forest, 117."

...so for her being a Spartan? I personally don't think so, but that's just me.

- " 'Sargeant' " Aquiila

BUNGIE already told us that there are three books in the making not including the Halo Graphic Novel coming out this month or next month

Yes thats what I think, the books should answer the "hardcore" questions while the game is going to keep it mainstream for the rest of the world.

I do hope the Spartans at the least make an appearance in the 3rd game, but thats what everyone thought in Halo 2. ......

Sorry just got back from reading the Eagle 117 theory that is closely to related to Opog's theory. I got the letter by copying and pasting from the halo archives. They probably just misspelled sergeant.

Cassandra is probably the one SPARTAN that was to injured to continue active duty.......But that is just a wild guess.... Who else does John know other than the SPARTANs personally?

Not cannon? The games are obviously more cannon than the book. Remember, Halo:CE came out before the books were even a thought. The books were only made because the GAME was successful. Bungie FTW and not some Microsoft employee who writes it based on their stories.

I'd say so too, she's going through rehab for something. The augmentations are a brutal process like being skinned alive.

Maybe she call's him John because they are married or they were dating awhile back so they dropped the formalities around each other.

Only time will tell if any of the conversations of the conversations of the universe booklet will be answered in either Halo 3, or more likely the new books coming out.

Worst theory ever. You obviously have not read the books.

And to the guy saying the books are not cannon: they are. This has been stated by Bungie on several occasions throughout the years in many interviews and on this very forum. Get your -blam!- straight if you want to act like you have the answers. Also, the "Halo Bible" was conceived long before the first game came out, and that is where all the stuff in the books has come from.

Actually I listened to the audio and he said something about the body rewarding social interaction because is was necessary to survive... well so was the appendix, and now all the appendix does is explode and kill you.

that logan guy said cassandra was attacted and she's writting from of recovery station so...
