well the letter is obiously not canon since Cassandra was the first spartan to be killed by Brutes. Read the book First Strike when MC and some other spartans are attacking a Covie supply station she is the first casualty of the attack

No, That's Grace.

Um, firstly, the first one to be killed by Brutes was Grace, not Cassandra. Cassandra isn't even mentioned in the books.

And secondly, for a Spartan, she's pretty dumb. Seriously. Who spells Sergeant 'Sargeant'? ...not any of the Spartans that I know of.

Thirdly, all of the other Spartans that we know of address the Master Chief as 'Squad Leader'--there are no references of them ever addressing him as 'John'--the only one that calls him by name is Dr. Halsey, so far as from what we've seen from the books.

And 117--none of the other Spartans address each other by their number designation, aside from Sam who was impersonating Chief Petty Officer Mendez during The Fall of Reach, and their 'team designations' (i.e., Red 21, Red 18, Blue 2, etc).

Only one person has called the Master Chief '117'--Chief Petty Officer Mendez (this does NOT include 'Trainee-117' inferences, just '117'). Fall of Reach, pg. 46

He patted John on the shoulder. "Watch out for wolves in the forest, 117."

...so for her being a Spartan? I personally don't think so, but that's just me.

I wonder why bungie thinks these letters are so significant to include with the H2 game?
