"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." - James T Kirk

Why would they when they have a voluntary S4 program? All the soldiers who wanted to be like 117 are going to sign up for this and the ODSTs won't have a use anymore.

And will ODSTs sign up for the 4 program? Nope.

Not after the years of jealousy and hate for the S2 program.

Only the best ODST troopers are accepted in the Spartan IV program, so no, the ODST Division won't end due to the program. Besides, not all ODST's hated the Spartans, they work just fine with you in all three games including them as your allies (Halo 2, 3 and Reach), only select individuals hated the Spartans so your point is moot.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

That's like saying there'll be no more Army because there are Marines. Or there'll be no more Marines because of Navy SEALs. Not everybody makes the cut, you know.

  • 05.21.2012 1:41 PM PDT

They only take the best military personnel. Similar to how previous Spartan programs took only the best children.

It was a little broader than 'a select few'. ODSTs in general disliked SII's because of their augmentations, IIRC. They didn't think of them as 'real soldiers', just lab rats.

Um, wrong. As far as I knew if anything they viewed the Spartans as 'spoiled' with the best gear. Not lab rats.

ODST's may have 'disliked' the Spartans, and Spartans may of thought as a chunk of the ODST's as being hot-headed/brash, but only a very FEW ODSTs actually hated. The... major in Flood I think was pretty much one of the few.

He hated them simply because Chief got no punishment after the fight with the ODSTs, not because of the augmentations or gear.

Barely anyone in the UNSC hated the Spartans and everyone at least respected their abilities in over 25 years active service.
The ODSTs won't suddenly disband because there are better troops than them and the investement in new S IV tech will trickle down into ODST and marine tech such as advances in armour and weapon systems. The only reason I could see the ODST disbanding is an economic issue due to the lack of funding as the war has now ended and the UEG is basically bankrupt.

Well, if you're right, I sure will miss them.

Don't worry, he's not right. The ODSTs are here to say. It's unreasonable to think an entire branch of the military would simply go away because of the SPARTAN-IV Program.

That would make sense. If ONI wasn't pulling a -blam!- ton of brand new fancy prototype tech out of their ass.

ODST is like special operation and the Spartan program is like the special forces. They each have different jobs.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

A good analogy would be the ODST's being like, Navy SEALS and the Spartans being like the Spetsnaz GRU, they are both Special Forces but Spartans get much more brutal training.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

US Army. They have Army rangers and Delta Force. Delta Force falls into a higher category than the Rangers. They're both highly trained special forces, but one is better. In this case, Spartan IV's are Delta Force, and the ODST's are the Rangers.

I highly dought the ODST's are going anywhere.

Sort of irrelevant, but I just thought I'd mention that not all of the ODSTs despised the Spartans.

We have SWAT, so why do we still have the police?

I hope not, it will be sad if true.

Well, you know how much money it's gonna take to make those suits? Those suits are new. Regular soldiers can't wear any of the MJLONIR's because of how powerful they are. Only a Super-Soldier who can keep up with it much like the S-II and III's maybe a S-I.

My point is that ODST's are still going to be around, moreover is the program selects the best, not everyone. I think the Halo series was better off with only S-II's and III's.

I posted something similar on Halowaypoint.com

Didn't get a single reply. I hate how legit posts about the game get discarded by topics like "Smashing a grunt by jumping on it".

Anyways, I fear the ODSTs may not be the bada**es they used to be compared to the Spartan IVs.

心の中に弱い風が吹いています。

But like the other Spartan classes only a select few (although the number is getting larger) are chosen to become actual Spartans. And besides at the moment the only training grounds for the Spartan IV's is aboard the UNSC Infinity. So other special forces units of the UNSC would still have to exist and be relied upon in the absence of Spartan IVs.

The ODST's and Spartan II's don't exactly have a great relationship. True that not all of them are like that, but many ODST's have fierce love for their unit and would never transfer into another one.

The ODST's will exist, there is no doubt about it. They'd just drop a level on the UNSC's Special Forces food chain once more, but they'd still be invaluable in many operations.

Actually I don't think there is a such thing as a SPARTAN-I, because if you pre-ordered Halo Reach, you get a small black box, along with the game, and in that small box is a black package. The package contains Halsey's Journal the journal has information on the ORION Program, which was the foundation of the SPARTAN Project. Since the ORION Program killed most of it's test subjects, the UNSC terminated the ORION Program, so they stopped working on the project. Later in Halsey's Journal, she states is ordered to start a project similar to the ORION Program. She was allowed to name the Project whatever she wanted. She named it the SPARTAN Project. Because she didn't want to make it seem like the deaths of the test subjects from the ORION Program to be in vain, Halsey renamed the SPARTAN Project in tribute to their deaths, the SPARTAN-II Project.

So there you have it. That is why I don't think there is a such thing as a SPARTAN-I.
