The numbers involved are interesting. Seems that Activision are fully expecting to take a round billion gross from this little project. The way Marathon is claused into the contract, with it seeming to be exempt from some of the non-compete stuff, and the way bungie is allowed to ramp up development in line with Activision's revenues from the Destiny sales, seems to place it firmly as the one-after-next project.

There's no way Nate Hawbaker's favorite hero is Alan Stuart

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

MMO? Yes. I hope Bungie can pull this off, and not crunch each game every other year, but do it spectacularly.

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

Oh god so much happy from this, but at the same time it sucks Bungie couldn't keep it until they were ready.

The fun of Activision begins.

That's what I got from it. It sort of seemed like old news. Other than that, the game will be on Xbox 720. I'm excited though, but not giddy excited.

Don't see anything in the article or the contract that we didn't already know. I guess the confirmation about a small Marathon sequel is new, but this is only a confirmation -- the speculation on a Marathon-based title has been incredibly strong for years, so this should not be a shock to any Bungie fan. Only slightly more detail about the number of games, years, and so on. All of the broad strokes are things we already knew...

Smart Bungie is smart...

Meh, maybe it's because I've seen so many vertical contracts like this before, but I didn't see anything that surprised me. Most of the terms are boilerplate for this kind of relationship.
I'm not familiar with US practices in this, am i right in my reading of the "Key Staff" clauses that any of those key staff who leave prematurely would have their "unvested" shares stripped without compensation? Does that refer to the ones attached to their 401k? Or is it more shares held by the company for a period after they're awarded (bonus or salary package or whatever).

A few of the details I find a bit surprising... Not really to much new info on Destiny I didn't already assume, though.

Marathon name drops are awesome as well.

I thought that was just the target and not set in stone. Ive been reading the sparknotes version though since I only have my phone for a few days (vacation), so I might be missing something.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Interesting.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

If Destiny has been in the works for a few years now they might be working on multiple Destiny titles at once(and some of the Comet titles). Bungie is huge, let's not underestimate them.

I don't think we knew for sure that it was going to be a shooter, and the fact that they described it as both Fantasy and Sci-Fi is interesting.

*shrugs*

It's interesting... in the contract is says "(xvi)maintain live support team for products (e.g., in-game game masters);"

One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

First off it says they should be teen/pegi 16 but if they don't if they don't get the target rating they will still go on.

Activison would slip up like this to.
Also like I said previously I will not be buying them if they have a subscription.

Also I may have read this incorrectly but I recall seeing 1 billion dollars allotted to the development of marathon? Or was it all of the games in general? Not sure

Bungie are released from certain clauses in the contract as sales of Destiny and associated products hits certain levels. For now they're allowed 5% of their total staff, and only 1 member of "key staff" (as defined by activision) on the project. When "operating income" hits $375m they're allowed 10% of staff, at $750m 25%, and if they hit the magic $1,000m mark they're effectively released to do as they please as long as they continue to deliver on Destiny.

Activision define their "operating income" as their income from sales less their expenditure on development, marketing, administration etc, so what most people would call gross profit. It's quite a high number, but given the sales of recent AAA titles (skyrim took $620m, for example, but quite a lot of that will not go to the publisher), and the amount of money Activision make off DLC and subscriptions, it's not all that unrealistic for 4 games, 4 "comets" and whatever other dlc, toys and trash they stamp the logo on.

Donuts > all other food

I'm not at all worried about the 2 year development cycle. Hell, Bungie made Halo 2 in just 15 months.

And Halo 2 remains my favorite game ever.

It was originally created in 2002 when the auto delete system was still intact. That account was deleted sometime in 2010, and then I claimed it.

I bet Bungies not to happy about it, and I'm sure somehow they blame urk.

But I'm glad to see some light out of the darkness.

Agree, Bungie must not be happy with this leakeage but URK might pay for it.

Yup, more than half of this info we already knew, it's not a big surprise there either.
