Yearly releases?
Bi-annual, not yearly.
DLC?

Bungie has never planned to make DLC before?

Destiny and Comet rotate yearly.
That's a release every year.

It's not just any DLC, it's Activision DLC
DLC doesn't count as a release, as it can be done by a small team and not greatly diminish the resources of the whole team.

It's still a bi-annual release schedule.

Australia pulls host over USA fyi

Seems a pretty reasonable contract on the whole. (Not that I have a great deal of experience in such matters...).

I'm a little concerned at the number of people allowed to work on B.net? I mean the forums, stats, filesharing etc have been a really big part of h3, ODST and Reach. But that said I don't know how many people are usually working on the website normally? So I can't really say with any certainty if it's being neglected or cherished haha.

I like the sound of Marathon :D.

Release every second year is a bit meh...but I guess that's the reality of the AAA industry. (Besides, H3:07, ODST:09, Reach:10).

As I understand it Bungie retains the IP? Although after 4 games and 4 DLC's its probably going to be a tired concept by then...

Here is this quote from the document.

The release plan for the Destiny Games ("Release Plan") is currently comprised of four (4) major retail Destiny Game releases tentatively scheduled for the Fall of 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 and four (4) Comet releases following each Destiny Game release tentatively scheduled for the Fall of 2014, 2016,_ 2018 and 2020. ln addition, as part of the Destiny Games Licensor shall also produce DLC Releases as mutually agreed by the parties in the time periods between retail Destiny Games and Comet releases. So a comet, would be an expansion, not normal 'DLC'. It may be Downloadable, but it won't be like normal DLC map packs. I'm thinking it would be comparable to ODST. But I can only speculate.

The contract refers to it as an "expansion pack".

New release every year.
Activision got what it wanted

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

For everybody saying how a 2-year development cycle isn't long enough, I think that development time doesn't matter as long as the dev team itself is good. Case the point: Duke Nukem Forever. The game was in development for more than a decade. People still hate it.

  • 05.21.2012 9:30 PM PDT

A normal multiplayer shooter would have a couple map packs every few months. But a yearly expansion pack makes it sounds like an RPG to me. I hope it is. Bungie could TOTALLY make the next great RPG

Obviously Bungie did too. They signed the contract as well, it was not a one sided deal.

As for the "someone talked" blame West and Zampella's court case.

I'm incredibly happy about all this new info, but there's something gnawing at me. It's like I peeked at all my presents before Christmas morning. It just doesn't feel right.

It came out... so muddled in corporation and legal shenanigans... not the way I wanted to have the light shine it all out.

Instead of some giant curtain opening to reveal its glory we get a lawyer shining a flashlight.

It's a release schedule. Not really information pertaining to the game.

Edit: Thankfully parts of the document were not released.

I'm really disappointed. Not because of the lack of information, because sooner or later we were bound to receive some intel. I'm disappointed by the fact that Bungie is making a game that comes out every other year. This explains exactly why Activision decided to publish Bungie's new game.

Whatever happened to taking time make a successful sequels?

Same here. I feel really bad for the Bungie employees, but luckily this isn't a large reveal. I'm sure we'll all still receive quite a bit of surprise/amazement/excite when Bungie decides it's time.

I believe bi-annual would mean twice a year.

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

Not necessarly it means both:
Occurring every two years, and twice a year.

Not that my opinion matters/will even be read this far into a thread, but I for one am happy to know the release schedule now.

When I was 16, and waiting for Halo 2 to arrive, the excitement that came from not knowing a damn thing was great. It made moments like E3 2003 and 2004 absolutely exhilarating.

However, 10 years later, I'm 26, and I find I now hate how closed-off and secretive the gaming industry is. It's a very childish thing that the industry won't shake off. As a gamer, I feel I'm not passed the whole 'make it like Christmas' aspect.

Anyway, I now look forward to finding out/seeing Destiny in motion. :)

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

2 years is not enough time to make a truly great game, and you can bet that the DLC will be something huge, so it will probably be a lot like having yearly releases. Thank you Activision for destroying yet another game developers potential by forcing them to push content out the door as fast as possible.

Even if these games are amazing, they won't be what they could have been had they been allowed a proper amount of time to finish their games.

I hope it's third person, there are too many First Person Shooters on the Market, and I personally find First Person Shooters to be too limited of a medium. Not enough mobillity / interesting stuff. No sir. Third Person is the way to go if I were calling the shots about this game I know nothing about.

Maybe a toggle option like Fallout? But think of all the games that are 3rd person and multi-player. 3rd person adds a lot of unfairness to the game. Sneaking up on someone who is in 3rd person is impossible. They can see behind them afterall. They can see around corners they actually aren't around. And it 3rd person ruins immersion.
