Not necessarly it means both:

I believe bi-annual would mean twice a year.

Biannual is twice a year.
Biennial every two.

-Bungie is also working on a Marathon game, but currently no more than 5% of their staff (nor more than 5% of their key staff) can work on it.

Assuming we can believe this, it is rather sad to see.

If it's a prologue to the series, sure, you have a small chance to convince me it isn't a simple, inelegant cash grab. If it's a sequel, well, that's just pathetic. Either way, if true, my estimation of Bungie as a company, and the people who work there, will have been knocked down a good many pegs.

*Strokes Beard*

I expected there to be darkness for another year or so yet. I don't want to judge their decision making at this point, this is indeed does not fit Bungie's normal model for games. It is not to be unexpected though, given trends in the current video game industry.

So, a shooter huh?

First person or Third person? >_>
I would hope first. I hate third person.
Or just a toggle 1st/3rd where the UI can easily conform to either preference, the HUD is usable with both play styles, and the game is designed to work at its optimal level on the first and third setting.

I really don't know what to say about this. I don't see any sources in the OP talon, you need to cite more. But if what you have written is true then Bungie has fallen from grace, and is no longer a saviour of gaming.

Isn't Aerospace dead because of Kickstarter? Hairbrained don't need Bungie anymore and new start ups can just use Kickstarter to fund their project if it's good enough.

Lol... A fully leaked legally binding contract being publicly released by Activision is apparently not enough proof for you... I'm sorry but that's the most proof you'll ever get about ANYTHING without stepping into a time machine and seeing it yourself.

If you take Bungie's word over legally binding contracts then here you go.

I don't think it does. Bungie is basically a publisher in regards to Aerospace. Bungie can fund (with their own money, not Activision's) game devs, small indie game devs.

Edit: because I don't want to double post too much.

Something like 90% of kickstarters don't work out. Going with an actual company to fund you, instead of relying on strangers to fund your game is smart. Also, what do you get if a kickstarter flops. You as a backer get nothing, right? Bungie enters a legal agreement with the games they'll be publishing.

What's the difference between that and getting a publisher? Infact 99% of game ideas don't make it because they are -blam!-. Kickstarter allows -blam!-ier games to be funded and made easier and better than going to a publisher. If a project Bungie funds and flops gets nothing, the developer pays nothing back to Bungie because it's Bungie's fault for investing and not managing their investment.

I wouldn't say that it is going to be a port to XBLA. It's just 5 percent because it was likely during the very beginning of it's development, story arch, etc. And you need to keep in mind that this was back in May of 2010, pretty much exactly 2 years ago.

If I had to guess, it will either be a continuation of the Marathon Universe or a remake, and a remake today would practically be a completely new game.

And if you think about it, 5% of 200 people is 10 people working on it. And this was back in May of 2010.

After reading the contract myself, I have to wonder if all contracts between developers and publishers is this absurd.

The contract between Activision and Bungie seems to put Bungie in a very tight position.

I do feel sorry for Bungie in more than one way. I am sure they definitely did not want anyone to know that they were planning to develop Marathon. I'm still disappointed that they would agree to release "Destiny games" biennially.

Maybe a toggle option like Fallout?
Unfortunately this won't work. Games are either designed to play from a third person perspective, or from a first person perspective. It's sorta mutually exclusive.

I mean, in Mario games, there's an option to look around the area from Mario's perspective, but if they were to turn that into more of an option for gameplay than just a feature to help the player examine the environment, nobody would use it as the game would be half unplayble. Complex Platform Jumping is that much more hard when you restrict the user's visual information like that.

Likewise, if a game is designed predominantly for the first person perspective, it's not going to take advantage of the cool things you can do with the third person perspective. Sending a large swarm of enemies to mob and flank the player might work in a third person environment as you can see all your enemies at once and deal with them accordingly, but in a first person environment (especially since you lack the mobillity that most third person games provide), the fight is going to be horrifically unfair for you.

The two are mutually exclusive see? The option to swap between the two is nice, but at the end of the day, the game is catered to one or the other, not both.

And it 3rd person ruins immersion. And this is untrue. I have been immersed in many third person games. Immersion isn't better in first person, it's just easier, just as it's easier to make a cake from Cake Mix than from scratch. You can immerse your players in a third person environment just as well, it just takes a ton of extra work, but if the gameplay benefits more from a third person perspective than a first person perspective, then isn't that worth the extra work?

...I may or may not have been writing a large discussion thread about this topic prior to this announcement.

>_>

By flops, I mean doesn't even get released. 90% of Kickstarters don't reach their goal, don't get released. Going with a publisher will get your game released, and say for some reason they can't release their game, Bungie will have securities in place, and the game developer company will be liquidated to recoup losses. (That's the whole point of a contract)

I expect a short teaser this year at E3. Also, passing judgement about this game right now, just by plans is stupid. We have no idea what this game is gonna be like. Bungie will more than likely make a good game. Let's hope so at least.

Here you go:
As described in the Native Release Plan, Destiny Game along with any related DLC Releases as well as Comet shall be initially developed by Licensor to operate on and be compatible with the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console ("Xbox 360") and the next successor console platform released by Microsoft...

...The parties also currently contemplate the development and commercial release of Destiny Game #1 for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system in the Fall of 2014, subject to the' parties hereto conducting a joint technical feasibility analysis that reasonably establishes to the parties' mutual satisfaction that Destiny Game #1 is able to be developed for the PS3 at quality and feature parity to the Xbox 360
