One thing's puzzling me - how can they do a massively multiplayer shooter... on a 360? Surely it doesn't have the processing power?
Fun fact: Bungie has been grossly under utilising the Xbox 360 CPU for years.
Didn't know that, many thanks.

I am a little sad, i was hoping for some sort of creative adventure game, rather than just another FPS to add on to the smelly heap of the overdone genre.

Where does it say it's first person...?

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

Is it bad that I'm kind of hoping for the Marathon game to be reboot? It's just that the game (not the story) was confusing to navigate.

x2 on the not knowing. This makes me excited for the graphics and gameplay together. Also makes me think how 343 says they are pushing the limits of the 360 for H4 though, I'll compare the two games in every way i possibly can now when i'm able to.

The thing is 343 is using Bungie's engine, while Bungie is developing new software for their new universe.

You know our motto, We deliver!

Obviously I don't know too much about their relationship, but it seems that Bungie didn't exactly "buy their freedom" by letting go of Halo. Activision seem to be holding them to a short leash with extra things it will be doing with high expectations from the game (makes sense though).

The game sounds pretty exciting though and I'm looking forward to it.

Yup, very true. Any of the Halo code would be copyrighted, so Bungie, at some point, had to start creating a new engine from scratch.

Hm, so they revealed it as part of a lawsuit? Meaning they didn't actually want to tell us?

Meh, that's no fun.

I hope its amazing, like how the first 2 Halo's were just because I have no "faith" an dislike the direction Halo is going in now but I doubt it will be.

But time will tell.

Wonder if something will be mentioned at E3 about it.

Dear God that's a shock. Feel sorry for Bungie having to deal with this due to things that don't involve them.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I'm sorry, Bungie didn't know how to multi-thread properly for over ten years? Only utilising a single thread of the tri-threaded xbox? Seriously?

There's no way ...

I have to disagree, "Massively multiplayer style, sci-fantasy action shooter" doesn't sound to me like a boring, over-done shooter game. To me, it sounds more akin to unicorn dragon tiger shark.
It sounds to me like I'd rather just have Planetside 2 than be shaked for every nickel and dime I own.

You don't need more than 5% of your studio working on a game that you are shooting to release in ten years...
Yay! Marathon will get the Duke Nukem Forever treatment! Great!

Also, going for "T" rating?? WTF
A T rating allows the game to be sold to a much broader audience. That is the bar, but if they don't make it a T rating, in no way is that a breach of contract. Quite honestly, I'm expecting mature.

Now, I have many concerns that everyone does. 2 years development time per game? That's a lot less than their usual 3 year dev cycle. The only thing that sort of calms my fears is that Destiny has had substantial pre-production time. I mean, it's been hinted at in ODST. So just imagine how long they've been working on it. Marcus Lehto headed up Reach's development.

What do you think Jason Jones was doing that entire time? Him and probably a small pre-production team have probably been in pre-production for a couple years. Planning this universe. Now we can only hope that all this pre-production cuts down on future installments pre-production. Which will make a 2 year dev cycle not that bad.

Sometimes starting back from square one does good...

Ask smart questions
http://catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Maybe they didn't when they first developed the Halo engine and from a project or another they did not have much time to re-invent the Halo engine since they had to deliver those games within two years, instead Destiny has been under development theoretically ever since 2007. That's plenty of time to achieve a good engine design.

But the thing is, so were next gen Halo games.

If you had the ability to triple your processing power, it seems more efficient to do that then fumbling about trying to get everything to work on one third of the processing power. In the five plus years of working on next gen Halo games they didn't put time aside to at least get it working?
