Seeing as the cat's out of the bag, Bungie should promote the game at this year's E3.

A small teaser trailer would be nice...
Implying that an E3 reveal wasn't already planned :)

This year's E3 would make sense, since 2013 will be the year of Destiny. (Wow, that sounds like a badass tagline)

If a game of that caliber is to be released in 2013, an E3 2013 announcement would be poor timing. If something's going to happen at E3, this would be the year to do it.

While I'd love to see that, I still believe that Bungie should carry on as if the leak hadn't happened. I don't want them to be rushed, and I don't want them to feel that because this information came out that they have to tell us about it.

Hell, I'm still waiting for them to reveal it, and I can wait for a while.

Although it does seem likely that they'll reveal something now that we know that 2013 is Starside...meh

When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

Shot in the dark here, I'm pretty sure that's because Marathon was never Microsoft's property. When they were bought by MS, I think that it was supposed to be for good, so separating Marathon logos likely wasn't an issue back in 2001.

I am still confused about this Marathon game. I just never saw that coming in a million years.

When you think about it, it kinda makes sense. Look back at to when they handed over the reigns to 343i. The maintained all ownership to all of the Marathon logos, etc. Should've been our first hint.

Oh, absolutely... but I think that's why it was overlooked, know what I mean? Why make a point of making sure the marathon logo was scrubbed from Anniversary? I know at the time it made sense as it is their IP, all I'm saying is that in hindsight, it makes sense that they made a point of making sure they retained it.

It makes sense for them to get the rights to that stuff back but I still mean why, why make a new Marathon game?

The Universe imploded, that was the end of the game, the end of everything.

It was a good ending to the game and the story was so confusing sometimes because of time travel.

I just am curious to see how this is gonna go down.

But, I wish Bungie still owned Myth. I would of liked Myth 4 so much.

I don't know. I mean, they must have had some sort of epiphany that made it all make sense to do. Why else would they do it? With so much unknown, there's too much to speculate on.

Possible new tagline for top of Bnet? I think so. Anyway, from a marketing standpoint, it just seems to follow suit to get this showboat off and running a year ahead of launch.

What I see?
>Bungie releases a teaser trailer under the Activision umbrella this year at E3. (we're talking in 10 days people)
>The web-team updates Bungie.net itself this summer to the new universe. After a teaser is shown, wouldn't we need a "Destiny Forum" anyways? Time for the end of 2004 era tech here.

How?

The thing about Microsoft from what I have noticed, they [...] gave Bungie the time to do it right. Incredibly false.

If they release a trailer at this years E3, you can expect a site update soon after. It's what Bungie has done in the past e.g. Reach announcement/ODST.

Honestly, I'm very excited and don't comprehend what all the fuss is about. Developers have contracts with their publishers. Bungie chose Activision because this was the best contract they got. If people consider this a "bad" contract for fans, I'd be frightened to see the outcry of people regarding a different contract with other companies. It is more than likely a fairly regular contract.

Subscriptions, micro-transactions, and value-added services are good for fans. They don't necessarily require sizable investments and may be more closely related to the Gears of War franchises' Season Pass which was an incredible value for fans (probably the best value for DLC out there). Moreover, their micro-transactions are cosmetic and similar to WoW mounts. I'm all for it and really pumped to get some news regarding the game.

To be honest, I wouldn't at all be surprised if we got an in-engine teaser just to show off how well Bungie's utilizing the 360's processing capabilities and to build even more hype for the game. The kind of thing that makes people not believe that it's in-engine when they're told about it later.

I cap fools.

I have to say, not too thrilled with the prospect of a subscription. Micro-transactions are fine, as long as it's not "pay to win." Team Fortress 2 has a good micro-transaction system, where you can get all the weapons in the game relatively easily, (with a bit of trading) without spending a cent.

I know the dev time looks a little crazy, but I'm wondering if they've already got something up their sleeves.

I mean, they've had quite some time to work on the first game, so that's time to build an engine, template, etc. That could give Bungie more time to work on improving from game to game, instead of worrying about building from the ground up for each game. Because if you start our right, you can have a decent foundation for a game that requires only minor remodeling.

That's the only saving grace I see in this. The incredible amount of pre-production for Destiny. Hints of it were in ODST, so they must have a pretty good template for it down, and that much pre-production time, it probably will cut down on future title's pre-production. Which would make a 2 year development not so bad.

Oh. And!

You also have to realize that not all parts of the dev team work at the same time.
Refer to this chart that was used when people were freaking out at Bioware over Javik. Now, replace "DLC" with "next game" and you've got a rough concept of time management between releases.

http://www.develop-online.net/features/1644/Revealed-The-huge -promises-and-secret-stipulations-behind-the-Bungie-Activisio n-deal

A very good summary of the 27 pages of contract.

  • 05.23.2012 6:11 PM PDT

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

I don't know why people keep complaining about how it's going to be "just another sci-fi shooter." The term used in the contract is sci-fantasy. This seems to suggest that Bungie is doing something a bit more interesting than just another Space Marine romp.

We have never seen the contract Bungie had with Microsoft, so to say that Microsoft let Bungie do what they wanted with Halo is presumptuous. In fact, Bungie has said the complete opposite. We take their word for everything else, why stop now?

People seem to be freaking out about the contract between Bungie and Act. They are businessmen people, who are very successful at what they do. Bungie can handle themseleves. Unless you are one of Bungie's legal counsel, I suggest you hold opinions relating to the legal contracts to yourselves.

I would like to take a moment and gloat a little. I basically said that it was going to be Sci-Fi.

Anyways, I will say that I'm scared as hell for Bungie because, well, Activision is Activision. While nobody forced Bungie to sign that contract, I feel obliged to tell Bungie to watch their ass.

I WANT to believe that the studio won't be worked to the bone and that what comes out won't be beaten to death like CoD or Halo. But I'm also incredibly excited to see that they retain all rights to Destiny. After seeing them lose Myth and Oni to Take 2 Interactive and Halo to Microsoft, I hope that they now have the liberty to preserve their universe's integrity.

As for the IP itself, I'm hoping that the term MMO is extremely broad for the purposes of legal documents. I am so sick of WoW and, the now failing, SWTOR. I am sick of a bunch of cloned MMOs and I am dying for something different.

FPSMMO in space? Sign me the -blam!- up. I just hope that they can pull it off and that they don't treat their customers like -blam!-. *cough*Activision-Blizzard*cough* *cough*error37*cough*

You have a lot of good points as usual.

Activision seems to be pulling a lot of bs over Bungie. They are making Microsoft seem like angels.

The thing about Microsoft from what I have noticed, they just let Bungie pretty much do what they wanted (as long as it was Halo) and gave Bungie the time to do it right.

It sucks Bungi lost Oni, Myth, and Halo.

I am still confused about this Marathon game. I just never saw that coming in a million years.

Destiny sounds interesting but I doubt it will be an MMO.

If it was an MMO, there probably wuldn't be THAT many games coming out that fast. MMOs are supposed to keep you playing that game for years, not get ready to play an upcoming sequel. Notice how we don't have wow 5 out.

I have a feeling Destiny will combine many RPG/MMO elements like they first tried to do with halo but ultimately abandoned.

I am not freaking out about this yet. This looks discouraging now but Bungi has yet to explain anything. Though this scedule should NEVER of been seen by the public and screwed Bungie over big time.
