Ten years ago everyone complained about the Microsoft thing; and now some will complain that's Activision, also it's entirely different since Bungie is employ owned.

For example Halo 4: E3 2011, releasing in fall 2012. We don't know how Bungie is going to play it out without Microsoft. There is a great chance your right, but still a chance they wait till July 7th or even PAX.

Well, since they aren't tied to Microsoft anymore, they're really on their own schedule. It just seems that history is a really easy indicator of the future :)

Also, relevant.

Is it me, or did anyone else kinda get the feeling from that article that Bungie gave up its independence again..

The contract also gives Bungie the freedom to put five percent of its staff to work on a prototype for a new game referred to as "Marathon," with the team size allowed to grow after certain operating income. There are also rules governing how much of the company's staff can work on Bungie.Net, Halo Reach DLC and other projects.

-Four games which are targeting for a 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 release.
-Four expansion packs which are targeting for a 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 release.
-There will be other DLC, subscriptions, microtransactions, and value added services.

Four games. Ok
Four expansion packs. Um...what?
Subscriptions? Unless it's something like Bungie Pro, then ew. Ew. EWWWW.
Microtransactions? EEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Value added services? More ways to get money? EW EW EW EW EW EWWWWW.

I really hate Activision. They, along with EA, need to be purged from this world.

You know what this sounds like? Bioware and ME3. We all know how that turned out. I agree with you. That statement sounds like Bungie will just be told what to do and will deliver the typical half-ass game because of what Activision dictates.

If this is true, hang me. I like the Marathon thing (Well, you know... except for the fact only %5 of the team can work on it.) but everything else just makes my entire body want to explode. This is just terrible.

They may have rules to abide to via contract. But they are not owned by Activision.

I guess, but I feel like I just stumbled upon all of Santa's presents 2 weeks before Christmas.
2 Weeks? Try stumbling on all of Santa's Presents for the next ten years >_>

It's unfortunate, but now that we know...

Maybe it is a sci-fi first-person MMO? Although the latter isn't specified in the contract.

Triple A games are made in two-year development cycles all the time. Not really surprising actually. This is why Bungie has had to grow so much post Halo.

  • 05.21.2012 5:05 PM PDT

Interesting... At maximum, 7 Bungie employees and 10 contractors are allowed to work on Bungie.net. More then enough if you ask me.

Unless they finish "Destiny 1" with enough time that they can start working immediately on "Destiny 2" and the subsequent rollover carries them into the following games so its a bit more than 2 years.

Spread the love...

I wonder how Bungie is responding to all this.

I'm sure they're not very happy. I know I'd be upset if information about my game leaked out...

It'd be nice to get an "official" word on the matter.

Marathon.

Looks like this game Destiny isn't related to Marathon. Marathon looks like it is possibly going to be a future game made (or should I say remade) by Bungie.

I doubt there will be an "official" word until they "officially" announce the game.

Looks like the game has to have a "Teen" rating or else it will be a breach of the contract. Looks like no more "Mature" games from Bungie for the next 10 years.
That isn't what is said at all.
"[Bungie] shall work closely with [Activision] to obtain a "Teen" rating... In no event shall a failure to obtain a "Teen" or PEGI-16" or equivilent rating be deemed a breach of this agreement."

We've got contacts lot's of em,but, they're not covenant! braberberbaberb NO NOOOO!

I wish I could forget everything in this thread :'(

Now I won't get the satisfaction of being surprised at any game or DLC from bungie in the next 10 years because I know when they are coming...maybe I can take rohypnol.

I'm surprised that Bungie is switching to a two year development cycle. This could be interesting. As for the games, still excited, and still can't wait.

Not uncommon, plus they've been working on this since like, 2007?

It's something understandable though. Activision is passing out the dough and I'm sure they would some dictation in how that money is spent. I'm pretty sure that Marathon game will something for mobile platforms though. :(

I can't say that I'm particularly excited because we know so little about the development cycle of Destiny, or hell, what it actually will be. I'm not a big fan of Activision either. On the other hand, it's Bungie we're talking about. One of the last few studios that I still care about.

Also, I'm probably one of the few people that prefers micro-transitions over monthly subs.

They may have rules to abide to via contract. But they are not owned by Activision.

Right, I get that. It just seems like they are abiding by a lot of restrictions limiting what they can do outside of the Activision project -which is were I have issues concerning their 'independence' for the duration of the contract.
