Is it me, or did anyone else kinda get the feeling from that article that Bungie gave up its independence again..
The contract also gives Bungie the freedom to put five percent of its staff to work on a prototype for a new game referred to as "Marathon," with the team size allowed to grow after certain operating income. There are also rules governing how much of the company's staff can work on Bungie.Net, Halo Reach DLC and other projects.
They may have rules to abide to via contract. But they are not owned by Activision.
Right, I get that. It just seems like they are abiding by a lot of restrictions limiting what they can do outside of the Activision project -which is were I have issues concerning their 'independence' for the duration of the contract.Let's look at what they're limiting:
The website (which I'm sure already had no more than 5% of the staff working on it), the marathon game (which, ideally, would be something they release down the line and, to be honest, even 5% of their staff working on something for a long time can make a pretty good product), and Reach DLC (which is no longer relevant).
I don't see a lot of rights being given away there.
That's hardly everything... Bungie also in the contract gives Activision the right to approve the hiring of replacements for 'key members' if they are terminated.
