ISU Cyclones!

So yeah. A bomb has been dropped and it was no small one.

After taking a minute to step back and look at all this... has anything like this happened before? A major publisher and grade AAA developer having their business model for the next 8+ years just made completely public?

The thing that might be the most muddy is how we now know that gaming critic scores will directly effect Bungie's bonus... the reviewers will CONCIOUSLY know this during their review!

I'm sure that there's way too much legal stuff at stake for anyone at Bungie to speak what they think but is anyone else just shocked in a bad way? Expecting a grand curtain reveal of their franchise only to have a lawyer give us a full x-ray of the legal and corporate process of the industry...

I for one feel terrible for Bungie that this is the way the darkness is broken. It surely was not the way they intended.

8 years is a long time, but I don't think of it so much as darkness broken as light confirmed. Everything stated in the contract save for release times and DLC was already theorized; all this really does is give us a heads up of when we can expect to play this amazing game and how many sequels it'll have. Yes, the sequels part is quite a big factor, but It's not like it shows gameplay or anything. Sure, it would have been better for bungie to release the info when they wanted to, but it's not that bad when you think about it.

As for the game review, I'm sure bungie will get a 100/100 either way ;)

I too feel very bad for Bungie. Some idiotic legal fiasco between Activision and IW unfortunately costed Bungie and they didn't really seem ready for this. However, the darkness is far from over. I don't understand why people are claiming the darkness is "broken".

I believe that this is a pretty common practice in the industry, I'm pretty sure it's in the back of most reviewer's minds when they review any game.

Judging that they are planning on releasing the game next fall, there's no reason for them not to make an appearance at E3 2012 to tease the game. They might not talk about the game for half a year after that, but it's starting to look a bit brighter

I'm sure Bungie will have grounds to re-negotiate some stuff in their contract since Activision -blam!- up and made it public.

It have just confirmed my complete lack of faith in Activision. Not that I'm really a fan of any big publishers at the moment.

Only if Activision agreed to secrecy. Public disclosure usually isn't grounds for termination of a contract. And yes, renegotiating is considered termination, then creating a new contract.

If Activision didn't agree to secrecy, or hushing up about the whole thing in regards to the public, and there isn't an exclusionary in the contract regarding legal cases, then there is little to no room for renegotiation.

I suspect we'll hear something from Bungie within the next two weeks about this, though.

Gosh, that is true. You take law? I've taken a small course on it, forgot that simple 're-negotiation' is basically making a new K.

Still sucks they had the lid blown by idiocy.

I don't feel sorry for Bungie. Bungie isn't a person, Bungie is a company.

It's like saying you feel sorry for a bridge because of all the weight it has to hold up.

Bungie is legally recognized as a person, a bridge is not ahahahaha. I think the majority of us, feel that it's crap to have a collective of people that are working towards a goal, and have specific plans to share what they are working towards, be ruined by something totally non-related to them.

Brown chicken Brown cow!

It is Activision / Bungie taking the COD way of doing things though?

Every two years a new game but the years between it looks like you will get a major piece of DLC (big expansion that is almost a new game), you wouldnt get a document to say that DLC will be released every two years if its just new skins or a little map.

Will Activision burn Bungie out?

Well, I wouldn't say this broke the darkness. We did indeed get new information but this is unlike anything we would have gotten from Bungie. We haven't learned anything about their development, only their business plan, namely the general dates they're planning to release installments.

However, does anyone else think it's interesting that this game has pretty much been confirmed as an MMO but that it's for a console, not a PC? Has that ever been done before?

I agree with this. Thank god their development wasn't leaked. There were parts of that document that seemed to have been redacted that would have shed the light on it. The Exhibits seem to have been missing, Exhibit A inparticular would have a lot of development plans on it.

However, does anyone else think it's interesting that this game has pretty much been confirmed as an MMO but that it's for a console, not a PC? Has that ever been done before?"Massively Multi-player style", I think if it was like a traditional MMO, they would have stated it's an MMO. Quite interesting. Many players is intriguing.

hmm, well in either case I think this is a pretty solid hint that the new xbox will also entail a new xbox live (or less likely, dedicated servers). If I recall correctly, the 16 player-per-match cap was often questioned and it was stated that the nature of the servers wouldn't support more than that. so is it possible that the next xbox will be able to support this 'massive multiplayer', not just for Bungie's new game, but for all new games on the system?

just an interesting thought.

The contract covers a lot but it is all pretty vague. Sure it does potentially spoil a few things, but I'm sure Bungie still has plenty of surprises for us. We still know almost nothing about the game itself.
