Bungie is very well becoming the new Bioware of Activision. First off they are making another Marathon game which I always thought they were against in the first place (beating a dead horse). Now an MMO? You seen what happened to SWTOR its just history repeating itself. This whole contract thing seems very sketchy and harmful to them. I hope they can get through this but it just seems like an uphill battle. Tread carefully guys.

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

I would like an MMO made by bungie!

By the time they plan to release it, it will have been over twenty years since they last made a Marathon game. I feel that's probably enough time for them to think of new ways to reinvent the gameplay of the series.

Not to mention your concern over the MMO bit is practically unfounded. The game is MMO-like, not a straight up MMO. It could just mean that we'll be able to have 50 vs 50 objective missions, and some form of a clan system to organize like-minded players.

My old Halo 2 account is Devil brothers

Although it's labelled as an MMO in the agreement, I doubt it's going to be a WoW like game. I'd imagine it as something similar to Planetside however it's all just speculation at the moment.

We have no idea how much the new Marathon game will have in common with the original 3, it could just be set in the same universe.

We don't know if Destiny is an actual MMO or just a game with elements of an MMO yet.

Just wait and see.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

Marathon is 18 years old, and features very few game mechanics compared today. Even a remake would be completely different from the original. I imagine a great majority of the current generations of gamers have still yet to play any of the Marathons.

The documents were very vague on the type of genre Destiny is based on. Yes it says "shooter" and "massively multiplayer", however, that doesn't mean much since fan speculation had already (correctly) deduced this.

I would imagine a Marathon remake would be similar to Halo in terms of multiplayer and single player. That's not a bad thing at all! Especially if they mix it up with some new ideas.

I believe everything is going to work out. Bungie Doesn't just jump into something without carefully thinking it through.

Like they said they make the games they make because they want to make them.

  • 05.22.2012 10:16 AM PDT

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Whatever they do, I hope the next Marathon doesn't give me a headache again.

Bungie should totally listen to this well-informed industry expert analysis. It's fairly obvious that he knows far more about the situation than anyone who is actually involved in it. Thank goodness he's here to save Bungie from themselves.

I think the next thing Bungie should release is a Bungie-rumor-specific version of the good ol' Jump to Conclusions Mat.

The FPSMMO part isn't bad... It's the way they're planning on taking every ounce of money out of you that's bad. How in the hell do they think they'll get away with selling it for retail with subscriptions (2 if you count "special services"), micro-transactions, and an expansion every alternating year. I'm sorry Bungie but I'm not a mindless sheep. I find it offensive that you'd sign a contract that treats me as so...

There's no jumping to conclusions with this. We got a fully detailed 10 year plan from Activision/Bungie in the form of a legally binding contract. There's no "jumping to conclusions" with that. At this point you're just blindly denying it.

Also, I don't think that Destiny will be an MMO....because MMOs just aren't possible on consoles. Unless Bungie makes another genre defining game. I wouldn't be surprised if they are able to make an MMO for consoles.

If memory serves the contract only said their next game was a Shooter.

I would guess that their next game would be a FPS rather than TPS because their most recent games have all been a FPS.

More experience with that.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I wouldn't mind a new Marathon game.
