That's what I'm saying, dude; It's not like Bungie to have 2 year development cycles.
I know, it's totally the end of the world that Bungie is now bigger and can have faster game turnaround. I blame Activision, personally.
Way to oversimplify and exaggerate the subject. Who said the world was ending?
My oversimplification and exaggeration wasn't just based on your comment - it's just that I've been hearing it a lot and it makes no sense to me.
I don't care how big their team is, there's teams out there way bigger than Bungie that develops horrendous games. The size of your company is no exception; a team of 50 people that focus on their project with heart can produce a better game than a team of 300 trying to rush.
What about a team of 50 people that focus on their project with heart versus a team of 300 people that focus on their project with heart? Don't you think that the team of 300 people will get finished much faster in that case? Ceteris paribus, a larger team will be able to accommodate quicker release times than a smaller one.
The teams way bigger than Bungie that you mention are not Bungie. The contract did not stipulate that Bungie cannot put heart and dedication into their games. Frankly, the massive increase in company size wouldn't make any sense if they couldn't push games out any faster than before. Especially with so much prep work having gone into this. Yes, there are a few more factors, but Bungie has grown by much more than a few people, and without Halo around their focus is much more narrow than before.
Frankly, that's why I don't get the idea. It seems like a huge oversight to say that decreased dev cycles would give Bungie a need to rush. It would make sense if they stayed the same size, but they didn't. There is a strong negative correlation between the amount of time required to complete a project and the amount of resources you have to throw at it.
I'm not a big fan of Activision, but any extra hate toward them from this contract is ridiculous. It's all standard business. I'm sure Bungie wanted expedited release dates as much as their publisher did given their expansion (and track history with their last two or three games).
