To all the people flaming me for "freaking out too early", this is what I'm wanting people to do when asked this:Just sit back and imagine the greatest game of all time. As if Bungie was the "chosen one" of the gaming industry and created what made your heart sink. A game that tested if you truly loved your wife/kids compared to it. Would you pay all those fees for that game?

It's simple. Are you willing to pay for Bungie's next game? That means paying a subscription, micro-transactions, a new release every other year with an expansion in between and paying for special services on the side. Would you be willing to pay that even if these games look like the greatest game you've ever seen?

I'm doubting, with so many other MMOs turning towards free to play, that this will ever work out for Bungie. I know that it will take a hell of a lot to convince me to do that. That's pretty much 100% of my yearly gaming budget for the next ten years if I keep up with the franchise. Gamers are not the same as they were when WoW could convince you to dish out money like that and I don't think Activision seems to be picking up on that...

I miss playing Halo with my friends.

I don't want to, I just hope I don't ride the hypetrain and fork out all kinds of money with fanboy goggles secured tightly:(

That's what I was thinking :P I would have thought a subscription to their game alone would suffice for that sort of stuff, though.

Also, with the "depends" comments, I said even if this is the greatest game you've ever seen in your life.

Bobcast is paid in MILF blind dates.

I will not pay for a subscription. I think the idea of a fee on top of Xbox Gold seem ridiculous.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

You know absolutely nothing about anything.

Not trying to be insulting here, but how could anybody POSSIBLY form a reasonable, well-founded opinion on this with the amount of knowledge we have right now?

You and others need to stop panicking. Goodness gracious.

I don't intend on paying a monthly subscription, but BioWare sucked me in with those silly little kits for equipment and characters in multiplayer (for the whole day and a half I played ME3's multiplayer), so who knows? If it's cool stuff, I'm happy to go for it.

Also, you do remember that Bungie Pro was another micro-transaction service, right? I bought that, so did many hundreds of thousands of others. I don't think they're going to go down the drain from that.

I never even thought of Bungie Pro being a micro-transaction but I guess it was xD Pretty interesting thought.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

People read "subscription" and jump to the conclusion that it's going to be pay-to-play as opposed to the more logical continuation of the Bungie Pro feature, just in a new game.

Look, I get where you guys are coming from with saying it's too early to tell what this game is like. That doesn't matter here, though. Just imagine the absolute perfect game and tell me if you're willing to dedicate that much money to it. It's that simple.

I myself am waiting to see what this game looks like to officially say whether or not I'm paying for it. I have no idea yet. Hell, it could break my expectations for the greatest game of all time but what I'm trying to do here is ask a hypothetical question. What is the consensus here about whether or not a game could survive in today's market with all this, what seems to be, nickel and diming. I honestly think that's a legitimate question.

If the subscription is Bungie Pro then what's the separate subscription based special services feature?

What does it depend on if you're imagining it to be the greatest game of all time!?

I don't know. And neither do you. And at this point, me saying that the separate subscription based special services feature is a cookie in the mail from DeeJ every month for the low, low price of 50 dollars a year is just a plausible as anything you suggest.

You're trying to turn pronouns in to nouns without any context for the conversion.

Pretty much in the exact same boat there with the ME3 example. I don't mind microtransactions that much because they're normally optional. A game that blocks features out unless you pay is different than a game that uses payment to expedite features, add optional features, or expand the reach or capacity of nonessential features. Bungie Pro already was very reasonable and was in the latter camp. I never paid for it, but I would have considered it had the need arisen.

So basically, yes, same as John. Don't intend to pay a monthly fee, but beyond that I will probably get sucked into some microtransactions or possibly some value-added (but nonessential) subscription plans.

OK, I guess I understand your question.

And the answer is, obviously, yes. Games have not only survived, but flourished in this kind of environment. Gamers whine and complain, but then buy what they want to (sometimes nothing, sometimes lots of stuff, depending on the gamer).

Zynga, the king of nickel-and-dime gaming, is argued to be the most profitable company in the world. Seeing that kind of success, it's hard for anybody to argue that this kind of business model spells doom and gloom for game developers.

Okay then, in this hypothetical question, it is in fact a pay to play subscription.

Posted by: x Foman123 xYeah, I can see that. Just hoping its success doesn't shift the rest of the gaming industry to follow suit.

I'm just hoping it's not as bad as it seems right now. :P

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Well if it's the greatest game of all time, then I would have to say absolutley! I still believe Bungie will deliver. I am hoping for a great, new universe =)
