In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Aesthetically, it probably would be cool to see, but my major concern is with the story...
15+ YEAR OLD SPOILERS
At the end of Marathon trilogy, the character you play can travel to any point in time in any timeline at will. He can essentially craft universal events in any way he sees fit, and even if he fails, he can try again an infinite amount of times until he gets the desired result.
You could build a game around that mechanic, but knowing he is basically invincible takes any sense of urgency or danger out of the game. He has reached the pinnacle of his existence, so there isn't really anywhere compelling left to go.
So that is what the story was about? :p
I think once you go to the end of the universe that is THE END.
I really don't know why Marathon. I thought in the Trilogy Box Set in the Marathon Scrapbook Bungie indicated they were done.
But here is what I hope for with it coming out:
- Marathon T-shirts
- Marathon techno soundtrack
- The B.O.Bs are more than 1 gender
- the graphics improve a little and they don't use a 2D skybox so I don't throw up after playing it for 3 hours.
I really wonder why they are making another Marathon? There are quite a bit of fans for it but it's not like it was Duke Nukem or Serious Sam.
I still am excited to see this game because I have played all 3 marathon games and they are the forerunner of the modern FPS. Marathon does have a massive and at times complex story and I am curious what Bungie will do with it.
I HOPE it isn't like a Marathon anniversary with the same games just updated graphics.
