Subject: Bungie's Comfirmation of Contract Reveal

If I were capable of laughter you would hear it bellow from my various apertures.

So. As we probably all know, Bungie's new game, codenamed "Destiny", has been officially confirmed through the reveal of Activision's contract with Bungie. We know release times and general stuff. All officially confirmed. Now, if you haven't already seen it, Bungie has added a short response to the whole incident to the top of the Bungie Blog. In it, Dee-J shortly confirms that yes... This is real... And yes... All this did just happened. And like always when talking about they're new project, he says "See you starside." Though since a release time is now confirmed, he adds "-in 2013." But... What's very strange is that the word "starside" is crossed off. I didn't see it at first but when I went back to read it again I saw it clearly. What could that mean? Are they hinting that something has changed? It might be nothing I know, but it all seems off...

Key

It's sci-fi/fantasy. Maybe they're saying that it doesn't take place in space, but is still sci-fi.

I miss playing Halo with my friends.

OMG IT MEANS IT WILL BE A REALISTIC SHOOTER SET IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

"See you starside" has been an ongoing quote used by Bungie for well over a year now as a prelude to what may come. I assume it was simply DeeJ emphasizing the fact that there is now a definite date for the release of Destiny.

If they want us to know that it's not in space by crossing off "starside", why would they of use that motto to begin with and change it now? It just doesn't make sense.. :/

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

It means they've stopped being intentionally vague. You're grasping at straws, here.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Doesn't anyone else find the cross off strange..?

That might be... It's just weird that they would be intentionally vague about implying that they won't be intentionally vague about it anymore...

Per Audacia Ad Astra

starside = 2013
Thus, starside/2 = 1006.5, which suggests that half of Bungie's progress began 1006 and a half years ago.

Also the word starside didn't make it anymore vague. At least I don't think so.

... Their saying has been 'See you Starside.' Now that we have a date, the saying is void since we know it is now 'See you in 2013.' So he crossed out the voided part.

Like someone else said, you're grasping at straws here. There is no 'hidden meaning' to this. It's actually a little embarrassing that this isn't obvious to everybody, to be honest...

V: I can assure you I mean you no harm.
Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Alas, so many quotes, so little room in the signature box.

My impression is that yes, starside was used as a way to refer to it being sci-fi, but it was also used as an indefinite location/time. Because the contract was leaked, it is no longer an indefinite point. That is why I think it was crossed off.

Besides, as other people said, a game developing company wouldn't be so lost about what they're doing with their next game as to change their mind about the genre of the game within a year and a half of the release.

I agree with your explanation. Which is what I was looking for, a sound explanation. I wasn't grasping at straws, desperately trying to make something out of nothing, I was just trying to figure out why they crossed off "starside". I couldn't figure it out so I asked the community.
