Nobody cares about anyone else's opinion - be it mine, yours, or a cult of angry star wars nerds - when they are enjoying what they enjoy.

Everyone cares about opinions, that's why we socialize on a forum with strangers.

So this leak happened and we know some stuff we didn't know before. Destiny is a series of four games that will come out every other year beginning in 2013. Each game will get an expansion pack and there'll be additional paid content as well. The game is vaguely massively multiplayer, but we don't know what that means yet.

Also, there's a new Marathon or something.

SO WHY IS EVERYONE FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS?!

We essentially know nothing. We have yet to see gameplay footage. We have yet to learn what "massively multiplayer" even means, let alone whether or not it's "liek totally a WoW clone" in any way. Paid downloadable content has been a part of playing Bungie's games since Halo 2. Marathon has been dormant for 18 years and that's a huge amount of time to formulate new ideas concerning the universe, the gameplay, and the characters.

I'm wary of Activision, just as many of you are, but the fact is that we learned very little from this contract leak. A whole bunch of you are, predictably, jumping to all sorts of wild conclusions, but there is nothing to be worried about, at least not until we know something concrete about what all of this new information means.

Short version: Don't panic! You're all getting worked up over information that has no context. We still know nothing about the games themselves, so quit worrying and be patient. If Destiny is scheduled for Fall 2013, it's a safe bet that we'll see something at E3 this year.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Just what we need, another thread on the same thing. :P

I am curious about Marathon because well, what more can they do with it?

It could just be a game set in the same universe as Marathon. Pathways Into Darkness is, technically, a Marathon game.

Also, I thought a positive thread might be a good counter-point to the thread proposing that Bungie is currently digging its own grave.

Yes, Pathways into Darkness is the prequel to the Marathon series .

Well, I wouldn't go that far. A prequel usually has clear strong ties to its parent work, such as shared plot points, characters, and settings. The Star Wars prequels exhibit this trend well.

Pathways Into Darkness, on the other hand, has almost nothing to do with Marathon. Sure, it pays lip service to the Jjaro - in the manual - and the Dreaming God is a W'rkncacnter - probably - but it's almost entirely separate from Marathon in all the ways that really matter.

Here's hoping the new Marathon project is more directly related to the Holy Trinity than that.

[/nitpick]

Real account.

Join me as we make new friends from different communities!

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I'm not worried in the slightest.

Theme Builder 4.1 is out for Bungie.net!

Theme Builders

I don't think we need this thread...

Complaining about the complainers reminds me of the Halo Waypoint forums. Please don't bring that mess here. :/

The contract leak gives nothing but good information and I'm sure we are all looking forward to E3 now.

I'm not worried either.

It just sucks that stuff got leaked, granted it doesn't really provide us with any context or substance :)
