If they don't suck it at first, just thrust and thrust til they do

Ok so in the end of campaign when MC fires the Halo and books it out of there i realized something. How did the firing of installation 4b not kill MC, but instead kills the flood and blows up the ark? Isn't it to be the other way around? Killing MC and not the flood? Im sure it states the Halos'where to kill the flood's food source and not the flood directly and i don't recall it damaging non-organic things either.

p.s. grammar is not top notch

I could be mistaken, but this is how I always took it:

343 Guilty Spark fought against you because the ring was not yet ready to fire. If you fired the ring, it would be destroyed since it was not yet complete. You fired it anyways. You fire the ring and make it through the Portal (sort of), escaping before the blast kills you. The ring explodes since, again, it was not yet complete. Thus the Ark also sustains damage, and all life aboard is killed as well (you know... explosions... they were everywhere as you tried to escape in the Warthog run at the end).

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The Flood were infecting the Ring, they would have been destroyed by Installation 04B tearing itself apart and then crashing into the Ark - causing catastrauphic damage in the process.

Chief isn't killed because Mendicant Bias redirects the portal, sending him to the Forerunners at Requiem.

Ah, i see. This makes sense. But how did Bias achieve this exactly? I'm sure he was destroyed at some point in the halo time line by his opposite self i'm not entirely sure haha.

At the end of the Forerunner-Flood war, Offensive Bias split Mendicant into two fragments. One was left on the Ark and the other on the Forerunner Keyship which, funnily enough, ended up on the homeworld of the Prophets and was later used as a power source for High Charity. Basically, part of the plot in Halo 3's Terminals is the two fragments of Mendicant Bias getting closer and closer together, restoring his mind which ultimately culminates in the final Terminal of the game where he's now 'whole'. He sacrificed himself in the end to keep Halo stable long enough for John to get to the Dawn and then send him to Requiem.

He seemingly hijacked the portal's systems during his time on the Ark so he had a degree of control over the destinations.
