The End
‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."
Unfortunately the XBC master servers are down - I know, what are the chances?!
Rather than simply postpone I know many people are eager for some carnage tonight, myself included. We'll therefore try a Halo 3 event instead. I'll give the gametypes a quick think and peruse through gamertags of those that have signed up; if you are interested in playing (including those that did not initially sign-up) also feel free to post.
This does not mean a Halo 2 event will not also take place soon; info forthcoming.
Game 1: One Bomb on High Ground
Game 2: Team Slayer BRs on Construct
Game 3: Capture the Flag on Valhalla
Game 4: Team Slayer BRs on Narrows
Game 5: King of the Hill on Guardian
Start time: 3PM PST on Saturday 26th May
There has been a lack of carnage in the community of late; I think we ought to change that. As I am terrible at Reach and it has, along with Halo 3, had a fair share of game time these past few months, the time seems ripe for some more Halo 2.
You might be aware that a Halo 2 Xbox game night was held once before. Last time we had an excellent turn-out. Unfortunately the experience was ruined somewhat by a few high pings. This time around, in interest of having the best experience possible, games will be catered towards the majority. This means that any high pings (~300+) will result in removal. It is unlikely this will occur, as the connection is usually very good, but I felt it needed mentioning beforehand, so those signing up work to ensure their connection is sound (those with wireless setups, you have been warned).
If you have got this far in my ramblings you might be wondering how on earth we can play Halo 2 online on the Xbox. Wasn't it discontinued? Well, while it is true that Xbox Live support for Halo 2 has been discontinued that does not mean you cannot play it online. Few are aware that all you need to do so is a program called Xbconnect and a compatible network setup. Details in the form of a step-by-step guide can be found below.
Sadly playing Halo 2 on XBC usually lacks that which made it so special: the community. There is little variety, as the majority of games are BR/Snipes on Lockout and little laughter, as a significant proportion of the playing population do not bother with headsets, or are non-English speakers, hence my unaffectionate term 'Columbian Connect'. This game night provides an opportunity to bring the community back to the forerunner of Xbox Live as we know it.
Setting up XBConnect: Hopefully this step-by-step guide will leave you mostly unscathed by the many wires and words. Grit your teeth, it's worth it.
ENSURE THIS IS SETUP WELL IN ADVANCE AND UNDERSTOOD FULLY BEFORE SIGNING UP (the thread has been posted early to give you plenty of time to sort it out)
Step 1: Check you have a compatible network setup (Help! My laptop/PC is wireless!)
Step 2: Download XBC client
Step 3: Download WinPcap
Step 4: Run XBC (create account), switch on Xbox and begin searching for system link games on Halo 2; provided you have correctly completed past steps your console will synch with your PC.
Optional step: More in depth guide; ensure you can hear others in game & host matches of your own.

Awesome, how do I sign up?
All you need to do is post your XBC username in this thread and confirm you can play. Note that as before you enter a legally binding contract in doing so. Should you fail to attend your mother is fair game. If we are already aquainted we'll throw in a video. If you are unconvinced PM me for links to a montage involving Apocalypex's mother.
Maps and Gametypes
Game 1: Team King on Midship (Let the carnage flow through you)
Game 2: Tower of Power on Ascension (I would rather play Phantom Pistols on Waterworks, but tradition dictates we play)
Game 3: Team Ball on Lockout (having made half the party rage quit, I am hypocritically throwing in the most overplayed map in the history of Halo... with an Oddball)
Game 4: Zombies on Foundation (we'll be playing with honour rules; if you do not change teams a mother video will also be disclosed, only warning)
Game 5: One Flag on Burial Mounds (I was honestly at a loss choosing the gametypes as Halo 2 has too many bloody good launch maps. I decided to go for something underrated for the last bout of the evening)
*And yes all games will have BR starts, because the SMG is god awful.
