You seem to have a very isolated definition of the word 'emotional'.

Mercy's death was a tragedy, in Contact Harvest we learn he became a hierarch by simply being in the right place at the right time and was absorbed into Truth's plans - which further adds to the tragedy for both Regret and Mercy because Truth seemingly planned to betray them from the very start. It's sad when characters we see as villains turn out to be mislead and only part of a greater scheme which they helped the puppetmaster engineer.

Regret's death was also pretty tragic, being assimilated by the Flood is just about the worst fate that can befall someone in the Halo universe. Yet the ultimate tragedy of Regret and Mercy is that they were loyal to Truth to the end, they had no idea that they were just pawns in Truth's suicidal crucade to activate the Rings.

There was a great deal of emotion to Truth's death because this is what the entire trilogy had been building towards. The emotion stems from the fact that it's finally done, the Elites and humans who were slaughtered by his command could now rest eas. Thel's story comes full circle as he finally gets his revenge on the man who shamed him.

So yes, the word 'emotional' covers more bases than you seem to think.

For me, some of the more emotional deaths were from books. Especially Fall of Reach. You really get to know a lot of those Spartans pretty well. For Sam's death and I want to say James floating off into to space was pretty rough. Those really got the ball rolling for the rest of the people who were lost throughout the series.
I gotta agree.

For me, personally, I didn't find character deaths within the games particularly emotional. The characters in the novel, however, were quite affecting (not just the Spartans, either). It's probably because they were fleshed out more; strengthening the bond between the character and myself. Also, the Spartan relationship in the books is so beautiful. The way they care for each other is so endearing. I really hope that comes through in the new narrative approach for 4.

For me it as Noble Six... Could you imagine watching your last ally die and then having the fate of humanity put on your decision? The way he looked at the ship and denied the ride gave him so much respect from me... I can just imagine in those few momments what he was thinking... "Theres no way we will make it off this planet... It must be done." and just like that, he saves the POA from distruction... Even if Chief saved humanity, without Noble six... There would be nothing to save. And he died with honor, and not giving up until stabbed by an elite... Not only that, he went down in a manner where he took off his helmet as if "Theres no stopping this." He fought until he couldn't anymore and thats what a spartan TRULY is... a war machine and a savior. He was both.

Noble Six officially became more badass for me after reading that.

Kurt, Nylund crafted his character beautifully in Ghosts of Onyx.

Sif, the development her relationship with Mack received in Contact Harvest was actually one of the more detailed and emotional parts of the Halo universe as a whole.

343 Guilty Spark, mainly because Bungie treated him like some kind of joke between Halo CE-3 when actually there was an extremely deep and emotional backstory to him which Kevin Grace beautifuly exploited in CEA's Terminals.

I did get pretty sad when Kurt Died I just finished that book it was awesome.

Noble 6 imo, I felt myself step into his shoes, and when I saw Emile die I realized that I was going to lay down my life and live whatever short time I had on a planet about to be glassed and with certain death in mind I took the gun

He will be forever known as Uber Marine.

A time when we were waging war on the Ark, a group of marines, myself, and a friend were fighting for survival. We made our way through patrols, suffered a loss against hunters, and another against a jackal sniper. The three of us trudged on, to where we found a mongoose, and other assorted weapons and vehicles. Uber marine, let's just call him "Chad", was now riding back on the mongoose, rocket launcher in had.

We made progress. We lost progress. A bitter fight towards the spot where Forward Unto Dawn would drop off Scorpion Tanks, Warthogs, and a slew of Marines. Chad at this point was warming up to his new fuel rod gun, and my teammate took a scorpion.

Chad survived every wave the enemy threw at us, a Scarab, tanks, and god knows what else I didn't see as I was zipping around on the mongoose. He died to a deflected plasma grenade, just prior to finding the control room. And at the end? At the end we found out that over half of my teammates deaths were because of him and his stray shots of green death. Chad was a dick, but he was also a badass, and so we will remember him.

R.I.P., Chad - "Uber marine"

^Funniest thing I've read all night.

IMO: Admiral cole, the one man destroyed more Covie ships than most of the entire fleet combined.

What a waste....

Dadab and Lighter than Some...

I actually cried the first time I read that.

"Torn to ribbons"... Still hurts.

And Daisy, Jorge, Kurt...

And of course, Johnson.

  • 05.26.2012 10:05 PM PDT

Miranda, not Johnson because it was obvious he was going to die in 3 anyways

  • 05.26.2012 10:50 PM PDT

Tallahassee?
I spent two weeks in Tallahassee one night.

Johnson the others were emotional, but Johnson the most imo.
The reason being is that he seemed invincible and you thought he just would not die, but he did.

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

Why you ever put Noble Team? They had no character development, bad character portray and their deaths is non-significant.

For me:

Johnson, Kurt-051, Sif & Mack and Captain Keyes. Runner-up: Cole, Miranda and Guilty Spark.

Oh god, I can't stop laughing

I feel that the Librarian and the Didact deserve a mention, even though they weren't very fleshed out in the games, that's fixed in the books.

So funny! xD The friendly AI really need to learn priority and when to fire.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Kat. Kat by far.

The emotion, of course, being joy and euphoria that the most atrocious AI character in a game is now no longer around to impede your progress. She was the real villain.

"Bip, Bap, BAM!"

Johnson of course, but then Gage Yevgenny in a close second for me.
To me, Johnson's death felt like Shepard Book's from Firefly. All of those feels, man.

We should know better, because we are better.

Never really had an emotional death. Maybe because most were spoiled for me, but even those that weren't didn't make me feel anything.
