Reach /= Halo
Halo = upgrades
Reach = downgrade
Things should only be abandoned/sacrificed if they are dead or inefficient.
Afaik, watching Theater with other players, regenerating grenades option in custom games, staying in place when spawning an object in Forge, viewing screenshots at regular resolution, and switching lobbies were not dead features.
Reach went with the wrong approach in basically everything:
Graphics > performance
Cinematics > gameplay
Customization > default
None of the above are good prioritization. Especially customization:
1. Though Reach looks like it has a lot of customization at first, in the end, it's all repetitious.
The enemies on Firefight. You can't mix them up unless you select specific options (i.e. Elite kill team). You can't arm them with your weapon choices (i.e. swords).
Also, why no adjusting bloom, bleedthrough, horizontal and vertical sensitivity, improvements in the checkpoint system, blast radius adjustment, vehicle physics adjustment, etc.?
2. Spartans.
It really pains me when I see Spartans get so many customization options and look bulky from all that. And at the same time, I'm laughing out loud because of how people are going to waste their time and resources to obtain Cr for that armor. When I feel like unlocking Elite armor, I only take advantages of daily challenges pertaining to custom Firefight and if they are reasonable (i.e. kill 150 enemies for 3000 cr, kill 100 enemies for 5000 cr). I don't rush it.
3. Accessibility in general. 10 second countdowns are everywhere, even in places where the player can't possibly get advantages from. On LNoS, I can't even hide under the Wraith drop point. Why would I need to go down there? Oh I don't know... because there's hardly any reliable cover? Because I'm trying to lure a glitched AI there to see how he'll behave. Because I want to?
Other than New Alexandria, most of the campaign forces you to go on a path. Noble Team inevitably clear the enemies on that path meaning you can't face them later.
Providing game breaking easter eggs to compensate is not the answer (especially if you have to play on Co-op to access them). H2's Scarab gun could be recovered on Solo and you could get to it without having to deal with invisible barriers.
I can understand people who play Reach because it's like a tradition to play subsequent games and it can present an interesting challenge (i.e. Mythic players) or because it's a somehow interesting take on Halo but when I see people defending Reach so actively as if they haven't played another Halo game, it just makes me appalled.
The simple fact is that Reach killed replayability in Halo.
Thanks to Cr, custom games aren't as popular as they used to be. And do I have to bring up team battles and armor abilities?
