Do you think the remaining spartans from the Fall of Reach should be left out of Halo 3, or included?

If you feel the need to explain your opinion, please do so.

I don't really think so. In the manual, it says that the Master Chief is that last spartan, and if there are others then it would confuse people woh haven't read the boosk. But you knever know, Bungie could have something up there sleeve.

To my knowledge the books are in no way binding on the storyline of Halo 3. They are a possibility, and it seems that Eric Nylund seems to have some insider info on the general Halo story, but all in all the books stand on their own.

Personally I would like to see Will, Fred, Linda, and especially Kelly in Halo 3. I would like to find out what Dr. Halsey is up to, so that means playing as Kelly.

It would drastically change the gameplay, but I think it would be cool if you could command the others Spartans like Rainbow Six. Some squad-based gameplay with other Spartans?! Sign me up!

Whist on cairo station, boldey (i 4got his name..... you know the bold guy who is the captian guy of the cairo station) picks up an emegency transmition. It is coming from the other side of the earth. Boldey sends out a rescue team. And they come back with..... A SPARTAN ON BOARD!!! *ta-da* !!! (you pick which spartan it is coz i dont care) The spartan is badly hurt. After the spartan is revived they send him or her down to earth to help the chief.
That would be cool!!!

Smaks -blam!-

That would be tight having other spartans, like you running through a destroyed new mombasa with like a squad. Linda up on some building sniping for you. But having squad based commands would kinda ruin the halo feel, does anyone else feel like that? Like four simple ones would be ok i guess, like take cover, attack, supress, and whatever another one would be.

I prevail

Well, if one Spartan defeated an entire Covenant armada and one of the Forerunners super weapons, I think that the Chief and the other Spartan survivors could defeat not only the entire covenant but also wipe out the Flood from universe once and for all. Co-op game with four diferent Spartans, that would rocks!

Just so you know, the games and books are related. if you look in the Halo 2 manual where Cortana is sending a secret message you will note that she refers to symbols that the MC retreived from a Covenant ship. This only happened in the book Fall of reach, but here it is being mentioned in the Halo 2 game manual.

So it is possible that the remaining Spartans from the third book (First strike) will feature in Halo 3.

All I can say is, YES.

The other SPARTAN-II soldiers are a canonical part of the story and would work well in Halo 3. The D-Pad commands, if any, should be like this:

Up - Advance/Attack Target (Contextual)
Down - Regroup/Take Cover
Left - Stealth Mode (The SPARTAN-IIs will take cover whenever possible, avoid the enemy, and only attack if fired upon).
Right - Assault Mode (Guns. Blazing.)

This may make it a little like Ghost Recon, but Halo 3 should tie up all the loose ends for the book readers and game players.

I don't know why this is hard for people to get, but- when that manual was written, in the Halo universe, it was THOUGHT that MC was the last Spartan- we didn't find out that he wasn't until First Strike, which happened AFTER the events of Halo CE.

I mean, for real people. If I am reading a manual for a video game about Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring, and it is like, Gandalf is dead. And then I play Two Towers, the sequel, and Gandalf shows up, I'm not going to be like "OMG WTF THEY SAID HE WAS DEAD!!!11!!!"

It's called a sequential storyline. Yeesh.

Also, for the people that say the books aren't related- how does that make sense? The books DRIVE the storyline to the games. Fall of Reach sets up all the events for Halo CE- MC being the "last" Spartan, Cortana leading them to the Halo because of an artifact that was found, the makings of the Human-Covenant war. Were you still able to understand Halo CE without reading Fall of Reach?? My guess is that you were- why? Because Bungie knows how to tell a good story, and can help 1)catch people up, or 2)cleverly fill in the gaps.

Likewise, for Halo 2, the prophets and grunts, as well as High Charity were all introduced in First Strike- heck, the end of the book leads straight into Halo 2, and helps give major clues as to the relationship between Tartarus and Truth. Were you still able to understand Halo 2? Yup.

As for whether or not Spartans will show up in Halo 3- I think you can count on it. I'm looking for Bungie to heavily include co-op as part of the main storyline, which will probably be a few missions with the remaining Spartans. I mean, how can the Spartans not be there? This is where the final showdown is going on- why would they be anywhere else? And no, this won't be confusing- Bungie can catch up non-readers in a few handy lines of dialogue in a cut scene. Imagine that :)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

why do people say the games not relevent to the books it states in halo 2 this fleet is no where near the size of the fleet that took reach....not to mention so many others read the books play the game learn to lisson

the way i see it is theres going to be other spartans helping mc its the best ending ever he finds out his old team didnt die and thay all kick the covenant and the flood back to where they came from and the day is saved and everyone has a big celebration and were all happy

THNAK YOU!!!! the halo books doo tie into the game atleast somewhat because in the first level of Halo 2 the admiral says"the fleet that attacked REACH was 50 times this size". he is comparing the amount of ships used to attack Earth with the amount of ships used to attack Reach. but without reading the books no one would have a clue as to what Reach is.

when i first played Halo 2 i hadn't read the books so i was confused. but after reading the books it made perfect sense as to what he was talking about.

In my opinion, Bungie has always had a few "tricks" up their sleve. For example, when I first played Halo CE I pissed all in my pants at the first sight of the flood, when the Arbiter was introduced in Halo 2, just about every slobbering jaw hit the floor. The guys at Bungie love a good surprise, and oddly enough we've grown to expect it. So whats next? An evil Cortona? The reintroduction of the final four Spartans? Where the hell is Dr Halsey?

In terms of the missing Spartans, I see one of three things happening.
(1) Fred, Will, Linda, and Kelly will return to fight.
(2) Fred, Will, Linda, and Kelly (or any combination) will die off before the story of Halo 3 begins.
(3) Fred, Will, Linda, and Kelly just won't show up - which I hope not to be the case.

We'll just have to see. Don't let us down Bungie!

I agree that ordering around other spartans might ruin the halo "Feel" but it might be fun.

I don't want any control over the other Spartans, but I'd like to see them pop up from time to time. Running through a massive battle with you, seeing them across a battlefield doing something, those things would be cool. But I don't like the GRAW style suggestions some people have. Just let them be AI or Co-Op.

Agreed- with perhaps one or two little commands, if there happens to be a mission where you work closely with them.

I do belive that if bungie would to exclude the other spartans from the game it would be very unusal given the strong ties between game and book, but i also belive that the game foundations should not change so that you 'command a squad' or 'switch between the different spartans' because i dont think that's what the majority of players want. They want to play as the chief, and the chief alone.(at least me, i wasen't to welcome to the inclusion of the Arbiter in H2, because it kept me wanting to go back to play as the chief, like it was a tedious chore to play as arbiter) so in a nutshell, i think the inclusions of the other spartans (if any) should be limited to soundbites, and cutscenes, like tarturus was in H2 with the arbiter.

I would love to see the SPARTANs return but many people would be like" whoa theres more than one Master Chief!?"

They werent brought in the second game so i dont think(but hope) they will be in the third game.

  • 06.07.2006 12:36 PM PDT

The Fall of Reach isn't in the games, nor is the mention of any other Spartans. In the "games'" plot, Master Chief is the only Spartan left, so no, there will be no spartans.

That just doesn't make any sense, thouglh. Halo 2 had elements from the book, and as I said before, the books SET UP Halo 2- the same goes for Halo CE. You might as well say that Halo 3 won't have elements from Halo 2.

*Edit* And Target- why is it impossible for Bungie to fill us in on more Spartans being alive through the use of cut scenes and dialogue?
