I don't really think so. In the manual, it says that the Master Chief is that last spartan, and if there are others then it would confuse people woh haven't read the boosk. But you knever know, Bungie could have something up there sleeve.
I don't know why this is hard for people to get, but- when that manual was written, in the Halo universe, it was THOUGHT that MC was the last Spartan- we didn't find out that he wasn't until First Strike, which happened AFTER the events of Halo CE.
I mean, for real people. If I am reading a manual for a video game about Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring, and it is like, Gandalf is dead. And then I play Two Towers, the sequel, and Gandalf shows up, I'm not going to be like "OMG WTF THEY SAID HE WAS DEAD!!!11!!!"
It's called a sequential storyline. Yeesh.
Also, for the people that say the books aren't related- how does that make sense? The books DRIVE the storyline to the games. Fall of Reach sets up all the events for Halo CE- MC being the "last" Spartan, Cortana leading them to the Halo because of an artifact that was found, the makings of the Human-Covenant war. Were you still able to understand Halo CE without reading Fall of Reach?? My guess is that you were- why? Because Bungie knows how to tell a good story, and can help 1)catch people up, or 2)cleverly fill in the gaps.
Likewise, for Halo 2, the prophets and grunts, as well as High Charity were all introduced in First Strike- heck, the end of the book leads straight into Halo 2, and helps give major clues as to the relationship between Tartarus and Truth. Were you still able to understand Halo 2? Yup.
As for whether or not Spartans will show up in Halo 3- I think you can count on it. I'm looking for Bungie to heavily include co-op as part of the main storyline, which will probably be a few missions with the remaining Spartans. I mean, how can the Spartans not be there? This is where the final showdown is going on- why would they be anywhere else? And no, this won't be confusing- Bungie can catch up non-readers in a few handy lines of dialogue in a cut scene. Imagine that :)
