Not really. Your mom is over quite enough to make my fears mute.

I think it would be wonderful if we were able to like a witty reply or a humorous joke made by a member.

What about you guys?

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

If there was a dislike button, I would dislike this unoriginal thread :p

But I suppose it would be cool

The New Hawtness should give us some new features, but will this be one of them? It's hard to say. Being able to like/dislike posts would allow post ratings as well as the ability to sort through threads in a new way. I recall dazarobbo mentioning that the discussion of a thread is based on the first and last page of posts. This would be a solution to that problem. If Bungie makes it easier to search and filter the content so I can find what I'm looking for, that's a step in the right direction.

On the other hand, where do we draw the line? I know many members that love this website because it's not like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. They want awesome features too, but not features that they use on other websites. Maybe they're not a part of those websites because they only like Bungie.net and its current layout. This is a good topic to bring up.

Originally, I was all for it.

After seeing it on Waypoint however, no. All it does it to bring people who'll post some sarcastic remark (usually off-topic) in the hopes of getting likes. Discussion quality goes down from there.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Only if you can down vote it with a middle finger too.

No. There are just so many flaws from it:

- Potential discussion gone
- Organised "liking"
- Clutter to an otherwise beautifully simplistic design
- People doing it randomly or just for titles
- Nobody knows who likes it and who doesn't

As well as others, I'm certain.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Just use the "save thread" button.

Everytime this is suggested I support it. So yes.

How would disussion go? Everyone would still be able to make a reply? I think it's better to have like button then people just quoting one another with the same sentance.

- That would just be so sad if people actually did that, who gives a damn. So you thread has more likes than others? Wow? Big deal..

- Not really, it could easily be a small little button and with a new hawtness on the way things such as the layout are boud to change.

- I doubt getting more likes on your thread would effect your title.

- So? Who needs to know who likes what? If people want to know that you like something then they could simply post a reply.

How the community of immature little kids on Waypoint handle features is no way to judge how this community will do so.

OT: Yes because it will get rid of quote-posting, QFTs, and "this"s. Or, at the very least, it will make it illegal to use them.

No: Waypoint has that and people get liked for anything. It's really not that great of a feature.

I don't really like the idea, but I wouldn't care if they did decide to add this in the site update.

The only missing discussion would be those posts akin to quote-posting which do nothing more than what a "like" would anyhow.

- Organised "liking"The likelihood of this occurring would be just as much as organized spamming or organized posting in a thread. Just because things CAN happen doesn't mean they WILL (at least on a regular-enough basis to the point where it becomes a problem).

- Clutter to an otherwise beautifully simplistic design You have no idea what it would look like aesthetically and therefore this argument is invalid.

- People doing it randomly or just for titlesHow the -blam!- would liking a post get you titles? That makes no sense.

- Nobody knows who likes it and who doesn't Yes you do. It would have a pop-up list of the users who liked it (like on Facebook), obviously. Anonymous liking is silly when it comes to the expression of opinion on forums.

That just doesn't make sence. How does having a like button make bungie.net like facebook? Facebook wasn't even the first site to have a liking system?

I'd rather one post get a dozen likes than it be quoted a dozen times.

- Potential discussion gone

How does it affect the potential discussion? If a member was simply going to quote a post, they wouldn't be adding anything new anyway. This way, people are able to show their support for a good point, without having to quote it. It may in fact help discussion, as other points are less likely to be missed.

- Organised "liking"
I don't really see this as a major issue. "Likes" don't have any more value than you attach to them. Why should there be an issue if one post has too many likes.

- Clutter to an otherwise beautifully simplistic design
If the button were to be implemented, I can't imagine that it would be too intrusive. As I've said before, it would likely reduce the number of people simply quoting a post, and so would reduce clutter in threads.

- People doing it randomly or just for titles
The likes do not have to be linked to your title, so this would not be an issue.

- Nobody knows who likes it and who doesn't
Not necessarily. There is no reason why there could not be a list available for users who have "liked" a post.

"Immature little kids"? You realise how ironic your comment is, right? You know, with the fact that you felt the need to insult and generalise a whole community for no reason at all.

Bungie and Halo Waypoint aren't that different. Look at the Halo 4 forum over there, and you'll see that they act the same as people in the Reach forum here.

People should not be encouraged to give a 2 second click as a response to show how they agree with a post. It's better that they post their thoughts personally. A "like" feature only encourages people to not discuss in detail things they agree with and what they don't. I don't agree with quote pyramids either.

It's not for no reason. Sure I used a flagrant generalization and it wasn't totally necessary, but I've been around that community. I tried really hard to be able to settle down in their community and be able to discuss Halo over there, but I just can't. I couldn't be the equivalent of a community forum regular over there as I used to be over there. The community on the whole just pissed me off too much.

And you're right. Their Halo 4 forum is almost a clear parallel to our Reach forum. But, the attitude and manner of speaking used in that forum is carried out to every other forum on the site which is what makes it unbearable for me. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of well-spoken and mature people who actively participate over there. David J Cobb is just one of them that I can think of off the top of my head.

And it is for these reasons I've now left waypoint (the relative immaturity of the userbase at large, the ridiculous amount of spamming that goes unregulated like a literal "Type in this thread so everyone can "thank" your post and you can get lots of "thanks" thread, the ridiculousness of the moderation staff, and the silly rules they have in place), and it is for these reasons that I don't think that they can be used as an appropriate analog through which we can hypothesize the manner in which the users of Bungie.net would react to such a feature being implemented.

If people want to give an opinion they will, if they don't they don't. To stop this from happening the like button could be a button or a tick box as part of your post/reply.

If people do not want to give an opinion, it's difficult to see why they want to roam an internet forum. Forgive me if I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective but a forum is where people come together to discuss and debate (just like we are doing now).
