Subject: Why does everyone think the rules are so strict?

All I see now is "THIS DOESNT GO HERE OP," "QUALITY > QUANTITY!!!," and "LETS BAN PEOPLE WHO SAY INB4!!". It's getting rather ridiculous, really. I was under the impression that the rules were a lot more lax and less reminiscent of Dachau.

So, are the rules really that bad? Or am I being silly?

People wouldn't be saying those things if users actually thought clearly before they posted instead of just posting without thinking if it actually belongs in the forum or if it actually adds to the discussion value.

See? Everyone just whines about the poor quality of posts and then throws in some bull-blam!- about "discussion value" in order to be condescending.

It's kinda pitiful that we've managed to develop arrogance on a forum.

Listen, when people want to waste their time doing something unproductive, they prefer to make it seem like it actually has some merit to it. Let them have their self-moderation.

This is nothing new, this kind of thing has always been part of the forums. People take things too seriously.

I'm not whinning, I'm just saying. Whether you agree or not it's pretty true. How many locked threads have we had about people complaining about Halo or something in the Community Forum because the OP failed to read the thing right above the post body that clearly says Bungie is no longer running that Halo universe?

  • 05.27.2012 1:20 PM PDT

http://www.capturemyhaloclips.com/ - Get your Halo clips captured.
The Artists Corner - Show other members your artistic talent.
Storywrite - Where I am writing my book.

You know people could acually take the time to read the rules before posting. That way it would save everyone from putting "wrong forum OP" and, therefore, nobody could be mad at the people just trying to prevent threads from being locked.

Even then, what does saying "Yo this doesn't go here" accomplish? Does that make the mods get there faster?

No, as a matter of fact it does not. You know what it does though? It helps people learn from their mistakes.

I'm glad they're lax, to be honest. It's the only thing that keeps the Flood interesting :V

Jurmis

Got a warning for saying "reported". Totally doesn't look good on my clean slate. Do I really care? Nope.

Anywayyyyys, mods could move good threads instead of lock, doesn't belong here, go away. All other crap that people usually say, I don't mind. I never post on wrong forums.

Well, the move thread tool is highly unstable....

Yeah; apparently it rearranges the order of posts in a thread. Hasn't worked for some time I guess. I don't see why they don't just fix it.

No, that's what the report button is there for. People say "wrong forum", etc. in an effort to inform the poster that they have posted something in the wrong forum. It's called courtesy. Should they probably also attempt to answer the OP? Sure. Should they probably check to see if other people have already said that the post is misplaced? Of course. But that doesn't mean what they're doing is wrong.

OT: I'd hazard a guess at it owing to most of the people on this site not having been a part of any other forum except for maybe Waypoint, and are therefore unaware of the industry mean moderation intensity.

Well, OP, people wouldn't say these things if they weren't necessary. I think we can all agree that Halo: CE discussion does not belong in the Reach forum, just as what an OP ate does not belong in the Universe forum. Almost always, one can discern quite easily the appropriate forum for a thread. Considering every forum guideline thread can be found at the top of the forum, for everyone to read, I don't see why people wouldn't post in the right forum.

Secondly, though I can't speak for other users on bungie.net, I would much rather read a post with a well thought-out topic and well-written body that promotes discussion than a wall of text with a hastily-created argument fraught with grammatical and spelling errors that barely allows for any discussion.

Finally, though I personally have nothing against it, I can see how people would be annoyed with people who say inb4. Almost all of these posts have nothing else in them, which does not serve to promote any discussion in the thread.

I don't thing the rules are bad, so much as they are common sense and etiquette. At least, that's my $0.02.

To be honest, the Ninjas seem to be really forgiving for rule breaking compared to the past. Add in the rules on this site are not that harsh compared to some other forums. Besides, private groups allow you to post basically whatever you want (depending on the group's individual rules).

I went there once to check out their forums and I didn't like them. Haven't gone back since.

It isn't a matter of breaking rules. It's a matter of the threads themselves just being incredibly stupid because the people posting don't put any thought into the post.

For example. I thought that was incredibly, incredibly obvious. So I would say this thread isn't quality, but rather just one that didn't have much thought before hand. It's pretty simple.
