hi guys. i have 2 eMachines, a T2958, the one im on now, and an eMachines T3120. the t3120 has a PCIe slot and i need one for a gfx card im getting. the t2958 is mine and the other is my "family" computer. is it possible to switch the mobo's (RAM and processor included)? I am not switching the HDD's or anything, just the processor, Ram and mobo. and no i cant just put the gfx card in the "family" emachines because my mom dosent want games on that comp. Would/could that work? THanks

You can switch them, but its a time consuming, messy, and often scary experiance. I wont give you instructions, but if you look them up you can probably get instructions.

And chewey said to switch the HD. Since you dont know how to switch the motherboard, I don think you will know what that means. HD=Hard Drive. Its your computers brain.

Just switch the HDs and take the "family" one. All your mom wants is on the HD so she will never know the difference.

Yes but the windows on that HD is setup for that hardware so you "switch the hard drive and you need to possibly reinstall video and audio drivers. There is not a easy, clean solution.

OK, i know what kind of stuff is in a comp, im not as dumb around computers as you may think ;). anyway, my friend is pretty good with this kind of stuff. In my emachines, i have a geforce fx 5500 pci card, so i will un-install this from my hdd? i also have a sound card so i will just put that in my new mobo? because those drivers are already installed on my HDD(i know what that means, Hard-disk drive, it has a storage capacity of 80 Gb just so u know) i am pretty sure that will normally go over. i know this sounds confusing but i think i know what i am doing.

Switching hd's is much easier than switching the whole mobo. There are screws and wires and alot of things can go wrong. Uninstalling and installing drivers is much safer and easier.

actually chewy, with no disrespect, i have a crap load of stuff on my emachines, including a new case and and fans and stuff. i think it would be easier to switch the mobo's. or should i switch the HDD's and once i get that sorted out, i will switch all of the stuff. Whaddya think?

Still, I'd go with what Chewy says. Switching the Mobo and everything BUT the HD seems a little like overkill, sort of like using a shotgun to kill an ant: it certainly is possible, but it's gonna be messy and dangerous, especially when you have a better chance of doing more harm than good. Just take out the HDs, reinstall drivers and stuff, and done. There's a lot more that can go wrong with taking out and putting in motherboards than there are un/reinstalling drivers.

Computers are pretty sturdy, they won't break too easily if you take stuff apart, but the less you move stuff around, the better.

As for the card, check your Mobo to see if it'll take that card, above all.

And on a side note, an emachines? I didn't even think they had anything of value in them. I used to have one back when emachines was a brand-new company, back when they were confirmed to make "low-end market, budget PCs" and it was...horrible. Have they changed that much over the years?

yeah, they have gotten alot better, ok ill try that. ill switch the HDD's and then if everything works alright, ill transfer everything over into my case. And me15ter, what do you mean check to see ifthat ard will work with your mobo? Its PCIe and it has a PCIe slot. Is that what you mean? Thanks fo the help.

it depends if the pc cases are the right shape for either 1. and wutever u do donot touch the board with your bare hands becuz the slightest static can fry it.
